I hope SVG keeps Jennings tho. If he takes some time getting healthy we could resign him on the cheap.

No because it would make little sense, Jennings was at a allstar level HOWEVER, if OKC was offering RJ+1st round pick, i'd have to reconsider that.

Hmmmm, tricky question. On one hand the value coming back as opposed to what we were giving up is pretty hard to pass up,I mean we let go singler (who most on this board could care less for and dj who while playing well was a terrible backup and only signed to a 3 mil contract). You also have to consider what message this might have sent to jennings and not wanting to mess up chemistry,I really dont know,my guess is stan calls jennings into a meeting and asks his opion on the matter.

I say "yes" because during the first 28 games of the season (5-23) we had like 3 untouchable players (Drummond, Moose, and KCP). Everyone else was in play as a possible trade piece. Jennings struggled in the first hand full of games before turning things around. He started playing out of his mind after J Smoove was released, but as I recall Reggie Jackson was linked to Detroit at the start of the season.

That coupled with our defensive struggles and SVG's desire to rid himself of the poor culture and poor habits, suggests Jennings was a likely trade piece. Much of that is conjecture, I have no insider knowledge. I'm just guessing based on what had popped up in rumors around the league.

The problem people are overlooking is DJ's value never would have been that high had Jennings not gone down, making the Jackson trade very unlikely.

As has previously been mentioned, SF was the bigger concern at the time. I think Stan would have pushed harder for Joe Johnson (a package of Singler + expirings). Jennings future has major questions, it seems many are expecting a full 100% recovery by the beginning of next year. He's a guy built on quickness and he might never be the same player again, Stan knows that which is a big factor in making the move for Jackson, a guy who could be the long term starter.

I'm interested to see how this plays out. Unless Jennings makes significant strides by the summer or Dinwiddie closes the season strong, I'd have to imagine we explore adding a backup PG this summer. That might not leave a spot for Jennings, who'll be the type of expiring deal to help facilitate a trade.

^ This has been way overlooked in our post-deadline-Jackson-Euphoria — the Pistons are now ridiculously set up to play "financial facilitator" this summer. We've discussed ad nauseam how SVG can go over the cap to re-sign Moose and RJ, which means our cap space (~18.5M, per Penguin's projection thread) can be spent on other FAs or in trades, but we can actually save another team a lot more money than that. Jennings is an $8.3M expiring, and Butler, Tolliver, and now Shawne Williams account for ~$9M in non-guaranteed contracts for 2015. Add them all up, and we could offer someone ~$27.5M in IMMEDIATE cap relief and ~$36M for 2016 if we swap Jennings for a longer contract. And we can do all of that without touching any of our young core (Drummond, Monroe, RJ & KCP) or our first round draft pick. The options for us to continue building this summer are practically endless; we're set up to draft, spend in free agency, and play the third team / facilitator / "sell cap space" role in trades.

I honestly don't think so. Jennings was playing too well to bring in anything less than a proven all star caliber point guard to come in and take his place.

His injury left us with DJ starting, and his long-term role with us was always going to be back up PG if he remained, so I think that, along with the fact that we don't whether or not Jennigns will return to 100% and the fact that he expires next year lead Stan to take advantage of this opportunity when it presented itself.

Even if it doesn't work out this was a great decision by Stan. Low risk, high reward and we only gave up two back up rotation players for a potential perennial all star.
