Re: Countdown to Ernie Grunfeld Firing (Part 2)
Jordan Clarkson's last ten games: 13ppg, 4 assists, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 steals. Who couldn't use a young cheap improving 6'5" backup PG? The wizards . . . That's who! At least according to our idiot GM who traded him for a ham sandwich. When will the madness end? How can Ted be such a supposedly brilliant guy and fail to see that his GM is the worst in the league by far?

he never will
Jordan Clarkson hit 10-of-16 shots and a 3-pointer for a career-high 22 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals in Wednesday's win over the Jazz.
Wed, Feb 25 Rotoworld
Byron Scott said that he's "still really excited about Jordan Clarkson."
Nah, no-need for player like this with a future, we have Ramon Sessions

Re: Countdown to Ernie Grunfeld Firing (Part 2)
If you look at how this team is constructed through the wing position you have:
Paul Pierce, Otto Porter, Bradley Beal, Garrett Temple and Rasual Butler
I think many on the board agree that Pierce should be used as a stretch 4. Pierce probably should play no more than 24 mpg, although he is closer to 26.
Beal is injury prone still - he will probably break out of that, his 33 mpg seem reasonable. And Temple would be his backup getting 15mpg. That would leave us with Porter starting and probably playing 33 mpg. Which means that Butler would get 15 mpg. He has been averaging close to 21.
I think we can agree that Temple/Butler as your wings off the bench wasn't such a good idea - Checkers got checkmated there. And that forced Witless to play Pierce at the 3.
Which brings us to Miller as the backup PG and now Sessions. Another checkmate.
And then you have your choices to backup Gortat and Nene. Humphries has been really solid and a good signing. Seraphin, Gooden, Blair - checkmate.
This is way more on Checkers than on Witless. And Witless has to go when we clean up the mess - but the poop is flowing downhill.

Butler, Sessions, Webster, Temple... it's really not that hard to find an upgrade or someone that can hit a 3 if you look hard enough. The NBDL/overseas leagues are filled with guys that could step in a play above replacement level.
Trading for Sessions and the extra year on his deal was just plain dumb... If Miller was so bad cut him and sign a FA like Nate or grab someone out of the D-League.

Re: Countdown to Ernie Grunfeld Firing (Part 2)
Ted took a shot at Randy and Ernie today
http://tedstake.monumentalnetwork.com/2 ... se-of-loss
The Wizards are truly struggling, and suffered a bad road loss last night, as well. Playing a second game of a back to back, with several players not dressing or leaving the game with injury, we seemed to lack confidence and intensity.
The spacing on the floor is not positive right now as we lacked some three point shooting options, and teams are defending us by stacking the paint. To be out scored by 20 points at the free throw line last night is really indicative of how much we are struggling on the offensive end of the floor. In today's NBA, three point shooting and foul shots are so very vital, running the floor to get lay ups as the efficient 2 point shot is also key. We haven't been executing those sets well; and our record of late is concerning to all.

So Ted took some time from rubbing elbows with Jamie Foxx to make some valid points and observations. I wonder who fed him that stuff. Maybe his son or is he consulting with somebody else in the know?

Not much of a swipe when it's prefaced by the injury excuse.

Dat2U wrote:...any lower and you'd be burning in hell. Ernie fell into the #1 pick where he had to take Wall. Take Wall off this team and were a complete trainwreck and probably the oldest roster in the league despite having (5) Five, yes count them (5) Five top-5 picks IN A ROW from the 2009 draft to the 2013 draft and multiple 1st & 2nd rounders beyond that.
I doubt out of 30 teams... you could find a GM that performed worse than Grunfeld at managing all those assets.
So when people say Ernie isn't horrible or is only mediocre... I wonder WTF have you been looking at?
What my man dat said! Except... sometimes I feel like we *are* burning in Hell!
And not only those 5 in a row high picks. As it happened, in '11 there were very good players available at his later R1 and R2 spots. We were yelling out their names here, and we were right -- they have gone on to become terrific NBA players. He blew those picks disastrously.
In 2012, there were very good players available at our high R2 spot (Crowder & Draymond Green in particular) -- but our genius picked Satoransky. And we'd given away our #46 pick in the Okariza trade, so we couldn't take Kyle O'Quinn -- a guy who had NBA written all over him.
And then we blew our R2 pick in '13, had to sacrifice our R1 pick in '14 (because the genius had no backup plan at Center), and gave away our '14 R2 pick for a bowl of porridge so that someone else could have Jordan Clarkson, a 6'5" point guard prospect who is playing his ass off at almost 20 minutes a game.
Here are a few names: deJuan Blair, Jodie Meeks, Patrick Beverley, Marcus Thornton, Chase Budinger, Danny Green & Patrick Mills. All of them available in R2 in '09, when we also sold our pick for a few bucks.

We've heard this kind of talk before, this is Ted repeating Ernie's talking points, this is Randy's face being slapped.

Well, that wasn't possible because Thompson was gone at #11 & Leonard at #15; we took Singleton w/ #18.
How about Leonard and Faried -- and then Chandler Parsons in R2.
Somehow the Bulls managed to get Nikola Mirotic @#23 and Jimmy Butler @#30 that year.
After we picked Singleton, the remaining 12 picks in R1 included: Tobias Harris, Donetas Motiejunas, Faried, Mirotic, Reggie Jackson, Cory Joseph & Jimmy Butler -- that's 7 of the better young players in the league.
Sad.

That draft was really horrible. So many guys from that draft turned out to be good players and we got two bums who were out of the league in 3 years.

Re: Countdown to Ernie Grunfeld Firing (Part 2)
Ted's "take" is as nonsensical as I've come to expect from him. It contains true things: layups are high percentage 2pt shots, three point shooting and foul shots are "very" vital.
But, it begs some questions -- Why employ a coach who emphasizes 2pt jump shots if these other things are "very vital"?
Why employ a general manager who was apparently not aware of how "very vital" these things are in today's game?
Why not employ a coach or instructional assistant to help players shoot three pointers better?
Why not employ a someone versed in the dark arts of 4th grade math who can calculate that even good 2pt jump shooters need only shoot 30% from 3pt range to make the three a better option?

Isnt' ernies contract up this summer?
Meaning he'd actually have to get an extension to remain with us?
I just don't see how Ted could be quite THAT stupid.

I don’t even have a problem with his allergy to 3s. But if he wants to play big, playing Seraphin and Humphries over Gortat is incomprehensible. An offense designed around dribble handoffs to free up 18-foot jumpers makes no sense. Neither does feeding it into post players who suck at post-ups. Run a pick-and-roll with Gortat and Wall; run high screens for Wall to drive and kick to Beal for 3-pointers; go small with Pierce at the 4 and Otto Porter at the 3. I’m not a basketball coach, and I know Grunfeld’s roster is rough, but a team with Wall at point guard should never look this bad on offense.
