Jae'Sean Tate is Eric Bledsoe strong. He should really give football a try.

Russell exits early with cramps/tightness in his left hamstring.

what do you guys think about Terran Patteway and Perry Ellis ? They can play but their stock aren't really good.

Some of you guys are crazy. Always draft the best player available unless you have an equally good or better player at the same position. Lakers need talent at every single position. I can't believe what I'm reading :o

I wouldn't concern myself with defense at this stage. If you can get the surest thing to be a multiple all star for a decade you take him. Besides, you don't just trade the first overall pick unless it's for someone like Durant/Davis/Lebron.

Wow.

I disagree so much. You must always consider how your "stars" will fit ... always.

At this point it's pre mature to pencil randle in as a star and start making decisions based on accommodating his talents.

Disagree... If the coaching staff and FO don't know if he can be the star of this team by now... Then he can't.

WE may not be able to say whether or not he can be the star of this team, but THEY sure as hell better know. And we'll find out soon what that verdict is.

It's totally unrealistic for anyone to know if he'll be a star for sure and it's even more unwise to start making assumptions as to how two players that haven't played in the NBA will fit together, specially at the defensive end where individual abilities are often overshadowed by team concepts.

Nobody's ever anything... Until they are. There's no such thing as "for sure" in the future. What's your point?
Building a winning team is all about assumptions... Completely rebuilding a team like we have to, is about even more assumptions.

We're not in the "Realistic" business right now... We are tanking for a draft pick... Our second lottery pick in as many years. We have NO star quality talent right now, and there are maybe a handful of players in the league you could legitimately expect to be part of a building championship core...

So why even worry about the draft at this point if it's unrealistic to think of rookies and sophomores as potential champions?

Right now our best bet for the future is that Randle and Clarkson continue to develop into something special and that we're able to draft the third piece of that youth/future puzzle this summer.

What is the difference between a trade, a FA signing, and drafting someone? If you're running the triangle offense, do you sign Gary Payton or Ron Harper?

The draft is one form of player acquisition, why treat it as if you should just select whoever is the BPA? You don't always trade for the BPA, you trade for fit, sign for need...why do you only draft as if the rest of your roster isn't there?

I get it, Randle hasn't played more than a few minutes. He is the definition of unproven at this level...but you still want to give him the best chance to succeed.

Development is tricky. Players don't just get to the next level because they have talent and ability. There's nurturing involved. Stunted players are real and those who aren't given the proper opportunities are almost assuredly so.

It would be a shame if we finally get 2 top 10 picks and they don't mesh together. It's really our best chance at becoming relevant again.

To be clear, of course if there's a huge gap between Player 4 on your board and Player 5 then you go with Player 4...but you don't make that decision in a vacuum. It's not just oh well he can use his left hand better at this point in time, so that's who we go with. As people have said: we have needs at every position. Only they think that means you make this decision in a vacuum! What's better:

Randle and the best point guard or center prospect on a rookie deal we'll have a sniff at in at least the next 3 years? Or Randle and a PF who is equally unproven? Why not improve 2 positions rather than 1? Why make a pick that could potentially ruin both player's development or create disharmony? So the best case scenario is what? You use the other in a trade? We have no assets other than the potential of this pick, Randle, and Clarkson...what would we even fetch for Randle or whoever when the other team knows we need a trade? IDK, it just seems like it's bound to be a self-fulfilling prophecy of shooting ourselves in the foot.

I hope we keep the pick, Lottery Gods. And I hope they're the best fit.

Now that the trade deadline is over, and we need not focus much on the season, let's talk draft day trades.

Anyone see any moves we can make for the better heading into free agency? I wonder what kind of guys would be available that night.
2014: Randle / Clarkson
2015: Russell / Nance
2016: Ingram / Zubac
2017: Top 3 Pick? Fultz, Ball or Bust

So you want to pay attention to the details that analytics provide, but you don't want to pay attention to the common sense details of how your "star" rookies will compliment each other?

What the hell are you talking about? And spare me the semantical debate on who or what a "star" is, you know what the hell I'm saying when I call these two high draft picks "stars"--they're huge cornerstone pieces that must be nurtured and developed.

I swear some of you all are David Kahn. Some of you all would draft three PFs in two years just because, in your mind, they're the best players available. That's idiocy, and it's that type of linear, extreme thinking that give way to the same fate as Mr. Kahn.

The Lakers will not draft a PF, and, hopefully, as they build the team they do, in fact construct this team with a long, defensive lean, not disregarding it like some of you all are suggesting.

I think I get it now. Some of you all are the very same "stat nerds" that Barkley spoke about. Some of you all are clearly unable to see things with your eyes unless it comes in the form of an article or report.

Bottom line: Stats are extremely, extremely important, but vision and common sense are even more; the key is THE BALANCED CULTIVATION OF BOTH.
