His inability to shoot from the perimeter costs us in games that are slow half court sets which are usually playoff like games

But its just my opinion

I agree with this so much. Greg could be David west if he had a jumpshot but he doesn't and like this post says he drives it into a crowded paint for a horrible shot. This happens on a regular basis.

Half of being a good regular season team is having effort every night. You bring it every night and you'll beat the tanking teams relatively easily and win a fair share of games when good teams have off nights. The playoffs are a different story.

When looking at the Spurs, the real underrated guy everyone forgets about is Diaw. He's a big who can shoot a bit, facilitate like a guard and play D on either forward spot (he usually was on Lebron when Leonard wasn't). The recent playoff team we are most built like with Monroe-Drummond is the Pacers, the last several years they've ended up losing to the Heat because they could not space the floor well enough and things got bogged down offensively. To win playoff basketball, you need to be able to space enough to score in half court sets and be able to play D that can keep up with several rotations. I just don't see being able to do that with both Monroe & Drummond in the game.

People get obsessed with the term "Stretch 4" but the reality is you want two "3"s who can not get killed by a true "4", fly around on rotations and shoot/move the ball offensively. We'd be a much better team if we let Monroe walk and were able to land Draymond & Tobias Harris, both the prototype you want as "3s"/stretch "4s".

This was a very very good post imo. If i can give 10 and 1's, i would. And i totally forgot about diaw. Hes so underrated. Him and dray dray are the same type of player to.

What if we had Jennings healthy coming off the bench this game?

Bench depth absolutely matters... But starting SF (and probably PF) is the bigger need. We can address the bench via draft and smaller signings after we plug the big holes.

Well if SVG keeps the 4-1 system when the 2nd unit comes in, Tolliver and Williams, or those type are what we are looking for and i don't think hard to find. Backup SF, i have a strong feeling we make a offer to middleton, but again i don't think hard to find. I think the most important thing we need for this season is a backup PG and probably next season, Dinwiddies crap play in the 2nd half o this game helped the collapse.

To add to this, Kevin Love scored 16 in this game, so it appears GS and Mr. All American Draymond Green is better suited to defend the Loves of the world than Monroe. But wait, what's that? LeBron baked them for 42? Hmmm......maybe, just maybe the game plan for the Pistons was to not let LeBron get off on us in that game at the expense of making other guys beat us, and he couldn't even crack 20 on us and shot poorly. We just happened to pick a day Love was white hot. I wonder why Golden State didn't switch this superstar defender onto James to slow him down. He has that max contract defense, right? Right?

The question of whether Draymond is a max player is very legitimate. Still, 16 pts on 7/13 shooting (only 2/5 on FTs though), 8 Reb, 4 assists, and 5 steals doesn't make him a chump either. He also played about 4 more minutes than anyone else on the team. Just for clarity, beating the Cavs is hard.

Agree completely. The concern over backup PG or similar position when the core of the team isn't settled always baffled me. Backups are why the MLE was created, to round out the roster, not fill up your cap space with them when you've got a clear deficiency in a spot you need 35 minutes a game from.

He makes up a lot of ground against slower players on the inside, but he looks horrible playing out in space against smaller guys. To make matters worse, he has a tendency to reach and grab when he is beat. If drummond was disciplined enough to make guys shoot over him and contest the shot, that would be one thing. But he's not. Just last night he got switched onto James and the first thing he did was get up to the 3 point line and crouch down like he was going to lock LBJ up on the perimeter. Seriously?

that's called getting into your defensive stance lol.

there was a play when he was guarding LeBron one on one at the top of the key, and when he LeBron drove he was there with him every step of the way. he even blocked the layup but unfortunately pushed off a bit with his other arm and got called for a foul.

to be honest he almost looks more natural guarding players on the perimeter than he does in the paint.

ugh no. When a center is on the perimeter, going up to the 3 point line is not a "defensive stance". It's a "I'm wildly out of position stance". Predictably, Dre used his amazing athleticism to stay close, but ended up fouling. That is the issue. He just is not disciplined enough to play smart defense consistently. He's finally starting to stay out of foul trouble against the scrub centers he plays most most nights. He's definitely not some defensive stopper that we are going to just rotate out on anyone ala dennis rodman. (at least at this point in his development). And most importantly, we need to develop Dre as a dominant interior player. That is the only way this team is going to be a contender. If he learns to man the back line of the defense and starts dominating the paint against penetration etc, it's not going to be any problem getting guys rotated to shooters. It's amazing how much better a teams perimeter defense can look when they have a great shotblocker standing behind them.
