OT: Health/Fitness/Working Out Thread

Post#1 » by ReturnofMVP3 » Fri Feb 27, 2015 4:50 pm

Anyone here workout or do any fitness base activities? I thought it would be nice to get a thread rolling.

To start with, what kind of supplements (and brands) are you taking?? I am currently taking protein powder from MusclePharm, cookies and cream flavor. It's good. Also taking creatine and fish oil.

I'm not a 'everyday at the gym' guy (though I wish I could) but I do go often.

As far as supplements and such I don't use any really. Every now and then when I feel down I use a Jekyl and Hyde Pre-Workout to get me going before my workout and afterward I'll usually get a protein shake at the place there inside the LA Fitness (have no idea what protein powder they use).

I would like to start using supplements if they indeed do work, so it'd help if anybody would recommend a couple brands.

I've been lifting for about a year and a half before, but haven't been to the gym in the last six months or so. I'm going back in about a week or two when my schedule eases a bit. Only supplement I ever used was a generic whey protein powder from myprotein[dot]com, but I can see my friend (hardcore fitness dude) persuading me to take something else if it really works. I do preffer ball sports to gym though.

I used to lift a lot, but as I've gotten older the stress on my joints is too much. I ski, canoe, and hike for exercise now.

I am a gym rat.. but not a meat head. Since I don't play basketball anymore (tore both of my meniscus 2 times each), I work out to look nice. Im still military so I have to maintain a decent size and still have to do cardio.

i take protein powder (whey gold standard: getting sick of it though.. switching between chocolate and strawberry flavors) fish oil and vitamins and lift gently about twice a week. used to take creatine but i didn't see much effect so i quit. that stuff is just white powder to me.

 Finee

currently on a de-load week, taking a week off, my joints need some recovery, it feels like I haven't lifted in 2 centuries.
I am a on a push/pull split, taking whey, creatine and a pre-workout here and there. I use to take this pre-workout called "craze" was the best ever, though it was banned since it had some sort of meth-like compound in it.

Diet I just follow IIFYM (if it fits your macros) and go from there.

Other sports, I play ping pong.

Yes, been lifting for quite some time now. I do Intermittent fasting eating pretty freely maintaining about 10% bf , if I want to cut down to about 8-ish % BF I do carb cycling, upping my water intake and some HIIT and it works pretty well staying lean.

Carb cycling= eating low carbs for two days then re-feeding the 3rd and repeating the cycle, usually about 0-50g of carbs the first two days and then 200+g the 3rd day.

Intermittent fasting= eating your food in a window of about 8 hours. So you fast for 16hrs and eat for 8, Really great way to maintain/build lean muscle mass. There are many articles on it, however it'd be tough for those who are used to eating breakfast every morning but you can adjust.

if you don't need to look insanely jacked, doing pullups, pushups, and maybe kettle bell swing (if you have space, and do not have small animals and children around), that's all you need for full body workout IMHO. Do all of them every other day (or twice a week) and eat well.. no gym membership required and you'll be cut (not big) for sure.

Reps and sets are dependent on your body weight, so I don't know. I would do it until I can't do it anymore (10+ pullups, 20+ pushups, 30 swings? on first set for an average dude?)

I love intermittent fasting, especially since I lift during the late evenings/night, I can't lift on a empty stomach lol

Yeah I have yet to try carb-cycling, still on a 2 and a half year lean bulk.

I ride my bike almost everyday in every weather, to work, to the city center and for doing shopping..I've done nearly 4000 miles in year and you don't need fitness equipment to stay fit

I'm trying to add more muscle and just get my body more fit and back to the days i played basketball and ran Track in HS. Also played on the golf team. Tried the Paleo diet, and couldn't keep it going, now i'm thinking of other ways to eat healthier and start it up... Any ideas? And also note, i don't like working out as much, probably because of my demanding work schedule i don't have the time.
