We shouldn't be worried about Noel playing the 4 or 5. Stick Noel on the more athletic player who plays the 4 or 5 on the opposition.

Can Noel guard Zach Randolph? I think so.
Gasol or Noah? I think so.
Nene? I think so.
Anthony Davis? That would be tough but I think he can do as good as anyone else. No one can guard him.
Blake Griffin? He might get pushed back too much if he doesn't add weight and gain weight but I think he can make him work. I don't think he would be lost.
Kevin Love? I think so but he better box out for rebounds. Again he need to gain weight and strength.
Draymond Green? That would be a tough cover. I don't think he would be that effective on him.
Aldridge? All he can do is make him make a tougher shot. Nobody can stop Aldridge's turn around jump shot. You can only hope it doesn't go in.

Those were just a few of the 4s Noel would have to guard if he starts with Embiid.

Nerlens Noel will be 2014-2015 rookie of the year

Post#503 » by MCtripDub » Sun Mar 1, 2015 1:56 am

Leads rookies in blocks (7th in the league), steals (16th in the league), rebounds and double doubles. Looking to be the first rookie since The Admiral to average at least 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks a game. I'd say he's just as deserving as mcw was last year, got the stats to support it.

He doesn't score enough.

That has always been the base requirement for ROTY

Yeah, even back when Emeka Okafor won the award, he was averaging 15 and 11. It's all about raw stat averages. Wiggins will win it, unfortunately.

Being 100% honest, though, I think Marcus Smart and Nikola Mirotic are most deserving. Both are plus players on both end of the court.

Nurkic, Noel, Wiggins and Payton all are all a little too unbalanced and/or incomplete players, at the moment.

Physically he will have no problems doing it, but it is going to take time for him to learn how to do it. I think that he is a natural center, but he will be able to play the four as well.

He and Embiid, however they separate the duties, will be a terror on defense AND offense.

Oh yeah, the adjustment period. Good news is that he's already foul disciplined so that should help ease the process.

exactly. maybe he's a 4 on D, but a 5 on offense. Embiid has shooting range, so it makes sense for Noel to be closer to the basket on offensive sets (at least until he starts hitting that 10 foot jumper consistently - and I believe he will).

@darenw: Andrew Wiggins has allowed the highest FG%, 56.6%, when defending a shooter 3ft or closer this year. Min 200 defended http://t.co/YmJKbNEpdQ

Would you trade Noel for a 2015 5 to 7 pick?

You know when one of your players are playing well when opposing fans make trade offers. :) I personally decline your offer, IMO Noel is a better talent than anyone in that range. Pretty much I would only trade Noel in a package for a greater piece.

Nerlens is so offensively challenged I think I might, especially if Herzonja was still on the board. Imo a Cauley- Stein has a better nba body, and is just as athletic as Nerlens . Cauley- Stein also has a bit more coordination/smoothness/basketball sense about him.

Nerlens is a good complimentary piece for a good team , a Camby type but this team needs so much help that they cant afford complimentary pieces.

If they ended up with Townes or Okafor, I imagine that they would move Noel for a 5-7 pick.

No but I would offer you the protected picks of the Lakers, Heat and maybe OKC for it.

Absolutely. And it would take me 1 millisecond to call out Frank Kaminskys name.

Kaminsky is an incredible basketball player. He may not have the athleticism of your typical lottery pick but he is a terrific all around basketball player.

Anthony Davis 0.8 RPM

Exactly what I was thinking. I like Kaminsky but I like Noel better. I would take Kaminsky with the Heat pick at 14-16 if he last to there. He is a improvement over Sims and would make a nice backup off the bench.
