Rip Hamilton: Pistons should have won '3 or 4' titles

Post#1 » by Laimbeer » Fri Feb 27, 2015 9:06 pm

...Like most of his former teammates, Hamilton thought that the Pistons left a couple of championships on the table, especially in 2005, against the San Antonio Spurs. Detroit made six straight Eastern Conference finals during Hamilton's stay.

"I think we should have won three or four,'' Hamilton said. "It just didn't happen. It was one of those things. To get one was great, but I thought we left a couple on the table."...

I think 2007 might have been worse than 2005. We were up 2-0 on Cleveland and essentially got swept the final 4 games by Lebron and Boobie Gibson.

If they wouldn't have thought they were so much better than they were then yes we could have won a few more. Sheed and Tay were the worst of them. Always always always crying to the refs and not giving it 100%. We had a chance to be special and they threw it away with their attitudes

Gotta have a strong 4 and a strong stretch 4... That's why this summer is so crucial to get these final pieces.

If anybody could have stopped or slowed down LeBron from going to the whole or closed out on Robert horry you talking about a small dynasty.
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

GB talking about how lucky we were to even have 1 title, that place is such a joke sometimes.

That team destroyed prime Shaq and prime Kobe for a championship. Then took a prime Spurs team 7 games the following season. Went 64-18 the following season. Had 6 straight ECF appearances. Held 5 teams consecutively under 70 points. Had 4 of our players beating in the AllStar game at one time beating up on the western conference and people on the GB are going to talk about how it was all luck.

I think you hit it spot on. That team developed an attitude that they could beat any other team in the league if they wanted to, and that caused them to play lackluster ball on too many occasions. I think a lot of that had to do with LB leaving, and the players taking control of the team.

All true, but Rip is just being his usual mouthy douchebag self, as if his ridiculous attitude wasn't one of the major problems.

The Ray/Pierce/KG celtics should have more than one, and so should we...2007, 2008 and 2005 were all winnable, but 2007 hurts the most because we got upset by a one man team.

2005 is the one that got away. Flip ball was never going to win us another title. That offense was built for regular season success. Flex is all about taking what the defense gives you. In the post season you need to be able to dictate what you are taking. When you have a mis match or a hot hand you need to feed that person the ball and let them go to work.

When you face the same team 4-7 times they have scouted you, decided what they can live with and we played right into that. It's practically a prevent defense, playing not to lose instead of playing to win. We never imposed our will.

We got exactly what we deserved to get. A damn shame and a hard truth, but the truth non the less.

05 we had Game 7 in the bag but ran out of gas, 07 was a really good shot at it too.

After 2004 we never had that ability to turn it up at the time we needed to.

Well we destroyed Kobe. not so much Shaq but we did figure out how to beat the Lakers and that can't be understated

We dismantled the most dominant 1/2 punch maybe ever, that's a hell of an accomplishment.

Kobe's ego was in full swing, Shaq was already on the decline and Malone/Payton were geriatrics. It was a nice win.... But that Lakers team was unquestionably weaker than any of their 3pete teams.

I got a ton of love for our GTW team, but don't over sell it. A true prime Shaq wasn't being stopped by anybody.

We never really had a bench after the 04 season and imo thats why we couldn't get the job done in those other seasons.

Right, we should released him '3 or 4' years before.
