Re: Official Free Agent Thread: What to do with our cap space
1.McD surely have some research or studies telling him that the modern NBA or future NBA require 2 combo borderline all-star guards.
He seems adamant to have 2x 20ppg capable combo guards.
The injury to Rose in Chicago proves that relying on 1 combo PG who rely on athleticism is a gamble....
Maybe McD has some studies and a strategy as to how he envisions the Suns having advantage over other teams in the near future.

Seems like some wont be satisfied until 80% of our roster spots go to guys who can't buy a drink.
My word. How on earth do you read Scutt's spot-on post and still post this drivel? Amazing.
So tired of reading the simpleton retort of "but his age!" Use some critical thinking and look at things like contract, fit, ability, versatility, trade value. Look at the models of championship contenders. Who in the history of the league has been on a path to success with a maxed out point guard playing shooting guard? You know, look at the things that actually matter.

1UPZ, that's a fascinating thought.
However, that game trend with players able to fast break non-stop due to evolution isn't happening during his contract.

Cut kieff, Marcus, tucker, green and hornacek, get a star and hire a respected coach and we might get a **** foul call. Until then, no way will we even make playoffs being murdered night after night by the refs.

It would be nice if we had the capability to sign both Wes Mathews/Paul Millsap. Two veteran guys who could probably pull our team together. Trade MoBros/Let Green walk. Keep everyone else.

I think McD wouldn't look at a player like Milsap.
Wes Matthews... Maybe.
I strongly believe he is going for a young team. Someone around 26,25,24 years old... Hence why Matthews is a maybe. But Matthews will have a big incentive to sign on with a playoff/contending team.

Knight in July. Unless you think they gave up the Lakers pick to see him walk.

I wanted to see the Suns go after Wes Matthews in the offseason, but that doesn't seem very likely with the recent acquisition of Brandon Knight. I cant imagine the front office gave up Ennis and the Lakers pick for a 30 game rental, so they must be planning on keeping him as the starting 2, unless they plan to move Bledsoe somehow.

I still think that they gave up the Lakers pick for Knight because a re-signed Knight is a better trade chip than a very questionable Lakers pick.
Knight was an all-star snub this season. If people want to give Dragic that all-star label (which they do alot on here) and he was snubbed, Knight deserves the same. We already have a ton of draft picks to offer a team in trade, what we needed was more quality players to add to that.
George Karl is still looking for a good PG to right the ship in Sacramento. Knight helps give us that godfather offer they are looking for.

The Lakers are highly unlikely to make the playoffs in the West next year with Kobe on the books this summer. There's really no disputing that. The only real argument to make is where in the lottery that pick will fall.
There's a gulf between being a snub in the East versus the West. Comparing Dragic to Knight is absurd. There's red flags all over the place with Knight, starting with seeing two teams in an inferior conference not wanting to commit to him long term. 3rd Team All NBA versus a guy who the Pistons and Bucks gave up on? Come on now.
A good GM leaves himself outs, flexibility. If/when the Suns pay Knight something like 70 million, they'll have committed long-term to one of the highest paid backcourts in the west. That's a huge leap of faith to make for two unproven players who are both ball dominant. So that's the other side of it. If the optimistic side to McDonough's master plan is a trade package of non all-stars and late first rounders for Cousins, which is more realistic?

Lakers pick will land 5th, Dragic will re-up in MIA for $14m per so the Lakers will throw $17m per at Knight and force us to match, just watch... They'll walk away with a new PG (Knight, who will play better on ball than he will here) and a new SF (draft) alongside Randle at PF.

Yup.
My goals for the off-season (for the FO to do and accomplish anyways)
1. Cousins: offer Knight, Morris, Morris, Heat pick 2017, Suns pick 2015 pick OR 2016 pick.
2. Thadeus Young: Sign to a multi-year 8 million per year contract.
3. Danny Green: Sign to a multi-year 7 million per year contract.
4. Free agent PG.
C: Len / Wright
PF: Cousins / Young
SF: Tucker / Warren
SG: D.Green / Goodwin
PG: Bledsoe / FA

Maybe McD has some studies and a strategy as to how he envisions the Suns having advantage over other teams in the near future.
Also, many fans (including myself) were critical of the 3 pg line up with Dragic-Bled-IT, but I have noticed a lot of teams run a 3 pg line up for part of the game. Last night the Heat ran 3 pg very effectively and did well against the Suns.
I favor a more traditional team structure, but analytics is probably showing that I am a dinosaur in my team approach and that having multiple combo guards or running a 3 pg line up increases your chances of winning.
I think this new style of team structre is the wave of the future and is driven by analytics. I guess old school guys like myself will either have to evolve or die out........just like the dinosaur.

In terms of skills/talent... I can understand Point Guards will be leading the NBA.
These guys are the ones with the best combination of handling, shooting, passing, facilitating, tempo-control etc.
Even top-notch SG are playing "PG", like Harden... Kobe, T-Mac etc. Westbrook is arguably a SG in a PG's body.
Like I said... there must be a study somewhere that shows high-scoring/star-talent combo-guards are/will be critical in a team's success..
I know in terms of jersey/shoe sales... Guard-endorsed will be the most popular, maybe due to the general fans find their "game" more beautiful/exciting to watch.

Re: Official Free Agent Thread: What to do with our cap space
Suns go with Bledsoe-Dragic last year.
Suns go Bledsoe-Dragic-IT this year.
Suns then go Bledsoe-Knight after recent trades.
Suns team development people definitely like the 2 combo guard line up. Guards are such high-usage players that teams are looking more and more to be replicating what the Suns are doing.

Re: Official Free Agent Thread: What to do with our cap space
Two players I want this offseason. If Love opts out I put all my effort into convincing him to come to Phx. If not I wouldn't mind us taking a shot at Deandre Jordan. I'm not sure what I'd be okay with offering him or for how long. But I think he'd be a great athletic center who rebounds like a monster. And with nights like the game against the Spurs I wouldnt be surprised if he averaged 10 offensive boards a game.

Re: Official Free Agent Thread: What to do with our cap space
As bad as Love has been with Cleveland he is still putting up decent numbers for being the third wheel. Similar numbers to what Bosh had in Miami while being third wheel. I think if he were to leave Cleveland, a couple of things would have to happen. Cavs would most likely have to bounce in the 1st round of the playoffs or in the 2nd round of the playoffs. Or Love would rather not be apart of Lebron's legacy and rather make his own instead.
