Resigning Kirk was clearly our "KG moment" ala Minnesota.
The fact that our KG is Kirk Hinrich says something, however.

I learnt from this board P4P that the no trade clause kicks in automatically due to his NBA tenure.
It's not techinally a no trade clause, but it has something to do with his bird rights. Basically he would lose them in a trade, so he has the right to veto a trade. I think...
Plus, I think he also had a trade kicker.
I have never been a Kirk basher. Infact, I have been a fan of his and respect him giving it his all when he's on the court. I seriously can't remember a guy his size willingly taking charges from guys almost twice his size. He has always played with a lot of guts, but he's just not a regular rotation level player anymore. I think Thibs is finally begining to see that with the low minutes he played tonight.
So thanks Kirk for wearing the red, white and black and playing hard for our team, but you should probably be sitting next to Nazr at this point in your career.

We've all heard the drinking theory and marriage theory as the reasons for his decline. Here's my half baked theory..Maybe he just needs Gordon back to fire up the Hinrich vs Gordon debates and give him a reason to be good again. A Batman/Joker type relationship.

I'm not a CBA expert but players with Bird rights have the right to veto any trade.
Honesty is my only excuse.

The veto ability only comes into play for player's on a 1 year deal that will give them Bird Rights. It's in place because if they are traded they will lose their Bird Rights if they are traded. That's Kirk.

the thing that needs to happen is next year Bulls and Hinrich come to the agreement that his playing days are over and him accept a buyout and retire then come on board as a assistant in the front office

Agree. Also make Hinrich assistant coach. This will please Thibs. Having his guy watching his back as be bonding link between FO and coaching staff.

Kirk's salary next year is TWICE what he would get at the vet min.
From a $ perspective though, its only 1.4 Million dollars more. I say only because its Kirk and he's already made his money.
It would be super cool if we can shave off that salary by negotiating with Kirk.

Re: Time To End The Hinrich Era. - MERGED
Something I posted in the game thread...but I guess this is a better place for it. Highlights the issues we have had with injuries this season with PG-SG-SF.
Lets look at Kirk's minutes distribution by position the last 3 seasons:
At age 32: 85% of Kirk's minutes were at PG. This is even with Nate on the team.
At age 33: 75% of Kirk's minutes were at PG. This is with DJ on the team.
Now, factor in that Brooks is a worse point guard than DJ or even Nate. Especially if you account for defense. And remember that Kirk's game and speed are aging each year.
Given the above, guess what this seasons position breakdown of Kirk's minutes are?
At age 34: Only 30% of his minutes thus far have been at PG. That's right ..almost 70% are at the wing.
Why is there such a huge disconnect?
Because of Derrick's minutes restrictions, Butlers games missed, Snell's incompetence in 2014 and Dunleavy's 20 game absence.
Kirk is being shunted into a role as a stop-gap to get some semblance of a team game going. While being injured himself. This also explains his drop in Assists...he was leading the team in that category when he was largely subbing in for Derrick at PG through December. Then, once he started playing off-guard, his assists went down.

If Moore's performance tonight doesn't bury the corpse of Kirk Hinrich...I completely give up.
