Meh, these seems about on par with everything I continue to read about the sixers, apparently just traded all our young guys who were any good at the deadline for future picks. WHEN WILL WE START BUILDING?

The league looks at more than just stats, look at the whole Hawks starting lineup wining players of the month. Smart lead his team to a 7-3 record and one game out of the playoffs. His defense and offense at the end of the games has been more prevelant than his shooting percentage(which hasn't been good because he takes way too many threes).

Numbers don't indicate he necessarily lead them, although if his 9.8 ppg while shooting that percentage, with a handful of rebounds and assists did that than that's awesome. As I mentioned, his ORtg to Drtg would insist that he didn't though, I'd reckon playing the Knicks twice, Nuggets, Kings, Lakers, and us is probably why the Celtics won 7 games in February, went 4-2 against the worst teams in the league.

Nerlens Noel will be 2014-2015 rookie of the year

Post#564 » by MCtripDub » Thu Mar 5, 2015 5:04 am

Nerlens is literally on the verge of being top 5 in the whole league in blocks. 3rd among all active rookies in scoring. Leads rooks in basically everything including double doubles.

This system is so flawed that it's getting pretty damn disrespectful.

Who didn't know that, a Patriots fan which also means a Celtic and Sox fan.... I like Smart's defense, watching the Sixers recently without MCW, and KJ the Sixers defense has regressed, that sucks with all the strides they made this year but still Smart isn't winning ROY, Wiggins is number 1 by scoring, Noel is clearly number 2 and should probably be number 1 for the way his offensive game has improved and the fact he's already a defensive presence on the court.

His team played well. I wouldn't give him the personal award for it, he didn't play well enough or contribute enough to the team winning to justify that.

Noel is better than Wiggins in BPM (-.2 vs -2.1) and VORP (.8 vs -.1) right now right? He's behind though on PER 13.2 vs 13.1.

If the Sixers draft Towns and pair him with Embiid, Noel becomes the sixth man except for crunch time lineups. If he plays the same amount of minutes, do you think his stats get even better given he is facing the opponents second unit most of the time?

I think that today Rudy Gobert is a better player than Noel, but it is primarily due to his size and strength.

I'm very impressed with him.

I would rather have Noel for the future, but Gobert is a beast.

Could Gobert coexist with Embiid?

No. It's going to have some problems against quicker line-ups, defensively.

Like I said, Noel gives us that unique opportunity to play a twin tower combination that can either match-up with big and small line-ups, because of Noel's special quickness and athleticism for his position.

These were my predictions for Nerlens at the start of this thread at the beginning of the season. I'm off with stats as far as averages go but they're not too far off from his production in the last month. Also while I knew it was a stretch where I said he'd finish top 5 in both steals and blocks, Noel hasn't treaded too far from that. Right now he sits 6th in the league in blocks (1.9) and 12th in the league in steals at (1.7) which is incredible for a big. He has a legitimate shot to finish top 10 in both categories. That's amazing.

Not sure why all this talk about trading Noel or using him as a 6th man and drafting towns or okafor  This Young Man has started coming into his own and is looking like a 10/10/2/2/2 beast lately and will only get better, I think We should draft either Mudiay or Russell bring back Robinson next year and with a healthy Embiid, Wroten or drafting Delon wright with the Miami pick or both We'd have a pretty stacked Young Team.

Wroten/Cannan
Russell/Delon Wright
Covington/Grant/Hollis
Noel/Robinson
Embiid/Aldemir

plus the OKC pick and 2nd round picks :D :D :D

What Noel and Embiid are going to do together is just scary. If Noel progresses offensively, we will be unstoppable. I thought the world of Noel leading up to the season, but I didn't expect him to become the offensive player that he's shown in glimpses.

Now we need Embiid to stay out of foul trouble.

Exactly, people are so hung up about prospects and wanting new toys to play with rather then keep what they have.

We need to get 1 big backup off the bench, Aldemir isn't a 5. I want someone with size, be able to rebound and play defense. Not another Sims please.

What I like about Noel is that as raw as he is he's not a dense kid. Noel knows that even though he's gifted defensively he's going to have to round out his game. His spot on the sixers is not guaranteed nor is it in the NBA. He has guys gunning for him not shown outwardly but in essence. Rather they are on the team (Thomas Robinson..Dario Saric) or upcoming draft (Towns..Okafor).. Bottom line is he has to show consistent improvement to stick.

To his credit he has done that. From trying to put on muscle to working on his shot and even hiring a personal coach out of the sixers to work on his post game. I think him looking more confident has something to do with him working on his game outside of the organization. Which is what all player have to do to get better.

Personally, I want Noel to stay not because of wanting to have some staple long term guys. This is not MCW where some guys want to just have something to settle with.

I want Noel to stay because I do think Noel can be a very special player. And yes, he has a really good chance to be better than Towns down the road.
