OK, I've seen enough posts that I think this topic deserves some good debate back and forth. SO AWAY WE GO.........

This thread will be fun.
Realistically though, we play with more energy and passion when Joakim Noah is healthy and right, which has always been sometime around the all-star break. Pretty simple really. Unless you choose to overthink it.

This is dumb. I'm happy to be on record for not being the idiot who thinks we play harder and with more passion without Rose. We are better with Rose, we have just as much energy. Joakim Noah is getting his game back, and the team is gearing up for the playoffs...can't believe I am defending a topic like this on a bulls forum. Makes me wonder how many people actually watch the Bulls.

CB, I respect everyone's opinion and didn't make this thread to trash DRose. There were some serious indication of a very lethargic team up until, well the time DRose and Jimmy both went down. I just want to see what folks think. No harm no foul.

D-Rose getting hurt gives the team a scare. Players start playing with heavy hearts and want to play their ass out. It has nothing to do with Rose setting the tone or not. You wake Noah up and the whole team will too.

Nope, don't think there's anything in this. Brooks brings energy, I guess, but he's not even the main PG at this point because he's been sucking it up, and of course Kirk is as lethargic as ever.
It's Noah, the playoff push, and the younger guys getting more minutes.

We have had stinkers without Rose. The early season losses to the Celtics and Pacers, that game against the Knicks that we barely won with 35 from Butler, the recent Charlotte game, etc. I think Noah coming back into form has given the team a lot of energy, and him and Pau are finally looking good together.
In case anyone forgot, the Bulls had won 6 of 7 before Rose got injured and were playing some of their best basketball of the season.

Blaming Rose for the entire team being lackadaisical? Yeah I've seen it all now on the Rose hate.

If there was a reason to think all of us are DRose haters then you could make that statement. Fact of the matter is I have never been a DRose hater. Am I allowed to criticise some of his decision making process as a fan, sure am. But the point is being objective and looking at the recent play of the team. If the mods thought for a second I was going over the line fomenting DRose hate this thread would be locked up. Everyone has an opinion and this is what the board is for, debate.

I believe a large part of it is that this team has been coasting and maybe didn't intend to. They didnt actually sense the peril. The injuries actually made them feel the flame. Thibs did not have their full attention. Now he does

I agree with the consensus that we're a better team when Noah comes to play at a 100%.
And when Kirk plays a smaller role.
And when Mirotic plays.
In the past (pre-ACL), Bulls had tendencies of falling into "stand-and-watch Rose" mode. Still, our greatest success came when he was MVP, and you need a dominant scorer to make the finals.
For ****'s sake, can all the pieces come together for this team at the same time? It's like we're playing musical chairs, with one odd man out every time.
It'd be lovely if MVP Rose, "MVP" Noah, "MVP" Jimmy, all-star Pau, ROY Mirotic, February Snell, and the rest of the bench all found their stride in May.

As others have said when Noah is playing well this team is something else to watch. Mirotic also brings a lot of energy and he has been getting more burn. Plus, now we are the underdogs. I think being an underdog energizes a team especially when they are at home.

It isnt so much, they play better when Noah plays better, although that certainly does play a part. I see it more as, Noah is now in command again, and the team feeds off his leadership which is way more effective than Rose's. And Thibs too. The team is focused on Noah and Thibs very intently ATM.

Call me crazy, but the pieces would never fit anyway. Jimmy and Rose are both below average off-ball shooters for their positions, and Rose is probably has one of the worst court visions for a starting point guard. For a guy who breaks down defenses so much his assist total has been really underwhelming throughout his career. A Rose/Butler backcourt is really counter-productive. On top of that Noah is at his best when he is setting people up from the high post.
What I am trying to say is that MVP Noah was only MVP Noah because of his high assist total which cannot coexist with MVP Rose. Plus, MVP Jimmy and MVP Rose didn't show up together maybe more than 3 times this year and that is being generous. Our three "MVP" players are borderline all-stars when relegated to off the ball roles. I know Miami had the same problem with their Big 3, but they had LeBron James not Derrick Rose.

PGs who chuck early shot clock 3s and don't fight through pics destroy team basketball. If the 3s are missed at a high rate, and the coach makes no effort to stop the selfish, bad play, the overwhelming temptation for others may be to stop paying attention to the team game and focus on collecting stats.
I leave to you to decide whether this occurred on many occasions this season.

Jo is definitely a better on court leader than Derrick. But Jo's leadership can only take us so far. Exhibit A: last years playoff series against Washington. Here are some facts. Derrick Rose's 2 full, healthy seasons under Thibs the Bulls had the best record in the NBA. Derrick's one healthy playoff run the Bulls went to the ECF. Was he any less of a leader back in 2011 and 2012? Just wondering. I think it's clear we need both Jo and Derrick and Thibs and everyone else.

No, the entire TEAM was coasting.
Now they're desperate and it's close to the playoffs, and it's showing.
Need I remind you that we're playing without Butler too.

So then Gar/Pax have assembled a team full of weakminded malcontents? Funny because with a certain PG in there this season the Bulls have beaten Golden State, Portland, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, Cleveland, Toronto, Washington. Derrick has had an up and down season (something many of us expected, by the way). But to say now that he's single-handedly causing teammates to mail it in is beyond reaching.
When Derrick plays bad, it's Derrick's fault, right? So how about when his teammates play bad, they get some of the same accountability?
