Like am I crazy for thinking he couldn't be averaging like 12-14ppg right now just off of slashing, transition, backdoor cuts, mismatches on smaller guys etc? And he could be drawing a lot of fouls too just off of being more aggressive + physical than opponents, that's how the league is calling fouls these days. Look at Harden and now Jimmy Butler, they get foul calls off pure strength and forcing guys to hack them. MKG should study Jimmy Butler's game exactly this summer and copy it. He could be better than Butler actually if he elevates his game at an earlier age.
Neither coach he's played for utilized him correctly. MKG has gotten more playing time recently, and he's making the most of it. Per 36, he's averaging nearly 14/9, and his playing time is creeping up into the low 30s as of late. As he gets more comfortable, his playing time should continue to grow. His jumper has come a long way, and as long as that falls, he'll stay on the court. He's scored at least 9 points in each of his last 7 games (which has to be a career-best) and is averaging 11.8/7.3 in those games. In all but one, his minutes average hovers around 30mpg. He picks up cheap fouls pretty easily, and Clifford keeps our young defenders off the floor too long when they have early foul trouble. MKG never has plays called for him either, so he rarely gets nice backdoor cuts. You're right- he'd probably score 12-14ppg in about 30 minutes if we bothered to run plays for him.
The biggest problem he has right now is lack of a three-ball and he tends to lose the ball when trying to finish in traffic. The mid-range shot is there and it's pretty good- he shoots 39.5% from 16-23 feet, and 57% from 10-16. He's a half-decent 3-point shot away from being a very complete player.
