Kessel Tired Of Criticism Directed At Phaneuf

Maple Leafs leading scorer Phil Kessel said Tuesday that the Toronto media mistreats team captain Dion Phaneuf and blasted reporters for being unfair toward the 29-year-old defenseman.

Apparently, Kessel felt he couldn't remain quiet any longer.

"I think the way the media treats Dion in this city is embarrassing," he said to reporters Tuesday.

Kessel did not call out any particular media member but said at least some should be "ashamed" and that they owe Phaneuf an apology.

The whole TML organization should have to do community service cutting grass and what not for their injustice record. They may not make the playoffs again? How haven't we had a fire sale yet? It got so bad we're trading for players we can't even play or praying that he doesn't. Is this what TML is about?

I've had Phaneuf of this whole roster. Trading Seguin for Kessel was a flop, we all see that now. Time to move forward.
