Rotation Next Year

Post#1 » by pipfan » Sat Mar 7, 2015 12:33 pm

I think it is safe to say the mostly like current Bulls to move are Dunleavy and Taj. I am picking next year's rotation now, based on bringing Dun back for one more year (place holder for Dougie) and to give us sufficient depth on the wing. Taj will be dealt-let's say this is the deal

Taj plus the Sac pick back for Stein (at #7) and Landry
Sac wants to win now, they get their starting 4, move Thompson to bench. Plus they get their pick back
Bulls get an insurance big and a Noah replacement

So, I think our regular rotation will look something like this
Rose-36/Brooks-12/Moore-insurance/Kirk-please no
Butler-36/Snell-12/Moore-insurance/Kirk-please, please no
Dunleavy-20/Dougie/15/Snell/13/Mirotic-Insurance
Noah-20/Mirotic-28/Landry-Insurance
Gasol-34/Noah-14/Stein-Insurance/Vet big

That lineup looks awesome-win now and prepping for the next stage. We would have tough decisions to make with Noah and Gasol moving forward, but that team is super deep. We would still have our pick-I would say a Euro stash or BPA (a PG might be wise)

I don't think the King will do that deal. They are not getting into the playoffs with Taj. Also taking on Landry is too much salary for the Bulls and will put them over the tax. Taj will be salary dumped IMO. I think the FO doesn't bring back MDJ to force Thibs to play Snell/McD. We will will see something like:

Rose/MMLE back up (Mo Williams or similar)/Kirk
Butler/Moore/Kirk
Snell/McD
Noah/Mirotic/Pick
Gasol/Mirotic/Vet big

Yea i dont see bringing dunleavy back. They traded the world for Doug, eventually you need to give him a legitimate chance. Only getting 15 mpg would be ridiculous. I ride with him for at least 25 mpg no matter what for awhile.

I think Dun is fine for one more year-dougie will ease into more minutes as the year goes on. Thibs is tough on young guys-we know that.

If we pay the tax for a year it won't kill us

I don't see Dunleavy being brought back.

Gasol's minutes need to be slashed down. This 35 mpg stuff is unsustainable or leaves him so exhausted he's even worse on defense than normal, or both.

Tim Duncan hasn't played 34 mpg since 2007. At Gasol's age, Duncan started played 28 mpg. And Duncan started out as a far better athlete & defender than Gasol.

The biggest question is Gasol will be 35, most guys that old should not be starting, but then again Duncan is starting and Pau is doing well this season so he is likely to stay starter imo

Then Dunleavy will be 35 as well, hes the one who will likely move to the bench (if the Bulls keep him and I think they should cheap).

Bulls will have to make a decision who will be the PF in a couple years, Niko or Taj. It will likely be Niko but Taj will be past him prime so would he stay and be 6th man again or leave?

Bulls future is Butler and Niko as the key pieces, whatever Rose gives us we can depend on. Noah should be re-signed, hopefully cheaper.

That's not going to be the roster or the rotation, I'm just stating the obvious here. And your random made up trade isn't very likely.

Is it possible MDJ comes back on the vet. min? He could probably net a bit more but you'd think at this stage of his career he wouldn't mind sticking with the Bulls for the lower price (heck, he took a pay cut to come here in the first place).

The Bulls have no backup 3, unfortunately, that's McDermott (unfortunately being he's on the roster) most likely. Like you said, they gave up the world to get him, which was so unbelievably stupid. He better step up his all-around game and fast. If not, I'd like to see him on the first plane with Taj this summer somewhere far far away.

Dunleavy could very well be back. He took less to come here and start. And it doesn't mean he's playing 30+ minutes. They also could try Mirotic at the 3. A lot depends on if Thibs is back or not.

The Bulls need to invest in a legit backup big man to spell Noah & Pau. To me, that's the most glaring issue. After that, it's a better backup PG to spell Rose or, if need be, start in his place.

Might be premature but Bulls need to find and start grooming the center of the future next draft. Noah may have only a couple good years left

He's only 30 and his feet have been better since he left the French shoe company. He's getting another good deal. Pau's killing it at 34 and has had more injuries. People act like Noah's 40.

Nice post TROB. This is what I see as well from the FO. I think they will force Thibs hand to play Doug and Snell and therefore won't bring back MDJ. I think the most important thing is we get a 2 way PG. I like Collison from SAC for Taj and some type of pick swap so we can move up in the draft and get Noah's replacement.

I don't see any lottery team giving up their pick for Taj & his deal (weather we include a pick back or not). Especially not after this season he's had. We'd be lucky to get a mid-late 1st rounder. It's bad enough we're going to have to take back a similarly bad deal to move Taj. Hopefully it's one that's not as lengthy.

How is Snell's year development coming along? Is he guaranteed to crack the starting rotation if he has a solid playoff run? Or is he better off the bench/

Nothing's guaranteed. Snell's had a good season, but is still streaky.

We don't even know who the coach will be or if Dunleavy's back. It's way too early to tell or to assume anything

Count me in as wanting Thibs back next year. I have ZERO confidence that the FO will find a decent replacement. I'd rather roll with Thibs for another year of two while Jo is still viable.

We're stuck with Rose and his question marks, so job #1 is finding a viable starting PG who can take over and start during the annual Rose injury. If Brooks stays cheap (he might based on recent play), I'd keep him as a third PG (really back-up PG when Rose goes down). Kirk has got to join the coaching staff.

We've got Jimmy at SG and I'd be willing to go with Snell and Moore as back-ups.

I wouldn't mind Snell starting at SF if he continues at this level through the end of the year and I'd be fine with keeping MDJ, if we can get him cheap, as his backup. I also wouldn't mind if we found another viable guy to start or come off the bench and let MDJ go. I just wouldn't bank on Doug.

Niko needs to play 30+ mpg next year. Jo can start for ego sake, but Niko needs starter minutes. I love Taj, but if we can land a viable starter quality PG or SG for him, I think we can find a vet min PF to pick-up back-up minutes.

Pau and Noah is fine as our center combo. I'd like to see us draft a long-term replacement guy in the draft.

Gibson for Trevor Booker, Trey Burke
Booker S&T for Bismack Biyombo
Hinrich Retires
Sign Jeremy Lin for a two year MLE deal (PO year two)
Sign Thomas Robinson type on BAE deal

Rose / Lin / Burke
Butler / Snell
Snell / McDermott
Gasol / Mirotic
Noah / Biyombo

12th - Robinson

OK, but if the Bulls dump both Taj and MDJ there should be money laying around to spend more than a MMLE for a decent 2-way PG who isn't from munchkin land.
