Well, it looks like he isnt being bought out!

Suns General Manager Ryan McDonough said Danny Granger will join the team in Phoenix after it comes home from this road trip, which ends Saturday at Cleveland.

Granger will do so with a focus on working with the Suns athletic trainers to get healthy for next season, for which he has a $2.1 million player option.

Granger, 31, made 30 appearances this season with Miami before being packaged with two first-round draft picks and cash for Goran Dragic last month. Granger, 31, was bothered by a hamstring issue this season and played only 46 games in the previous two seasons due to a knee injury. He is three season removed from averaging 20.2 point and 5.4 rebounds for Indiana in 2011-12.

I have to say, im glad the Suns are at least giving him a look. With our medical staff, if we could get him to be half as good as he once was, that would be a total win for us. People forget how great he was pre-injury. Thoughts?

Doesn't matter, team still sucks, mediocrity at its finest..blah...blah...fire coach..blah

He should be able to provide a good locker room presence. And if he can get back to his former play he'd be a great backup off the bench next year. Leadership is always welcome on our bench.

If he can get healthy he would be a great addition off the bench. 10-15 minutes is all we need. Plus having someone who has been through some wars in the playoffs would be a welcome addition

I'm fine with it if he can be a good veteran leader type guy. Can't imagine Goodwin and Warren are too thrilled about it though, they weren't getting much burn even without him.

Well if Green and Thornton are gone,

That would leave Marcus, Warren, Tucker, Bullock and Granger still have 5 SF's on the roster.

I know we could play Granger and Morris off the bench together but we should really be giving minutes to Bullock and Warren.

I think we should try to max Tucker's trade value or move him to the bench where he can excel off the bench as an energy guy.

Ultimately the guy that needs to be the star long term (or close to it ) is Warren. We should be giving him as many minutes as possible. Tucker is a bench guy hustle guy and Bullock maybe a D and 3 guy.

Idk if having Granger play makes sense unless we plan on rolling a bench squad of Goodwin Warren Granger morris wright which would have no passing to it

I think he is clearly a perimeter player. Some guys don't have that "banger" or tough mentality to play consistently like a frontcourt player.
In my opinion, we will work some trade in the summer and that is all. We have been working on a possible buyout, so clearly Hornacek (or McDonough) it wasn't thrilled about him on the roster. He will be another Ben Wallace in our roster history.

I don't think you want to bulk up someone with permanent knee issues.

McD is probably trying to flip a house, try and build up Granger, deal him to a contender, make a profit

I don't think you want to bulk up someone with permanent knee issues.

You could strengthen the legs first, which would help any knee problems, while gaining muscle in the upper half.

Could be our next Grant Hill. It wasnt too long ago when this guy was averaging 20 PPG. Let him take the season off, rehab, and come back next year 100%

Only makes sense if Thornton and green are gone. Yes a veteran would be good but Goodwin is in his 3rd season next year and won't want to be coping under 10 minutes again.

This would probably make the most sense to me. I was always a Granger fan, and it would be amazing to see him get anywhere near his peak level of basketball, but there's just really not a place for that experiment long-term on the Suns' roster. I also doubt that he can do it, given the combination of his style of play/injury history/age, but my main concern is that I'd rather see the minutes go to the young guys right now.

We are just trying to farm him into becoming a somewhat valuable trade asset in the offseason or early next season instead of buying him out and getting nothing

Granger when he came back healthy when the Heat rehabbed him, he was on fire from 3. Then he stopped and started to suck, because his knees couldn't take it. You could tell when his knees were weak, his shot would be off and he would have no lift.

He was too sporadic, inconsistent, was not the stretch 4 Spo envisioned, don't let him dribble, he will lose the ball... (I bet he will do a dribble and dunk when he feels great).

He had his moments but not enough for Pat to give him another chance . Beasley right now is providing more at stretch 4 (... Or 5) than Granger ever did. I wish Granger the best, even though I hated him here, but Spo overplayed him as well when he provided nothing. 10-15 mins a night with his knees should be fine.

Your medical staff tho can work wonders, so it should be interesting.

I agree the young guys should get the minutes, but it was said that Granger was a good locker room presence for Indiana and was a leader for that team. Every young player has had a veteran mentor to bring the best out of them. We have no role models for the young guys on this team.

I think its a good idea to keep him on the team and let him rehab, I don't see green and thornton staying come next season and who knows who else will get traded in the off season. This roster is far from finalized and we know McD is still looking for his star player.

We might have a logjam right now with Tucker, Warren, Marcus, and Granger but Marcus might not even be here come next season. Especially if the deal in place with Chicago rumors are true and McD was really looking to ship them out.
