Karma Came Around and Bit Us (Cavs Fan)

Post#1 » by yoyoboy » Sun Mar 8, 2015 4:13 am

We got rid of Dion and now you guys have to suffer from his play, but it seems like the basketball gods just had to get us back, so when you gave up Perkins, he came to our team and is now stinking it up for us. I tried telling Cavs fans (on RealCavsFans) that this guy was awful, but I got responses like this:
How dense are you? Drop the bone, man. A dozen people have outlined why its a fool's errand to compare the OKC situation to ours. Go back and re-read until you get it...

The guy isnt coming here to throw up double doubles and post up. He's coming here to set hard picks, fight for rebounds and loose balls, and use all 6 fouls if necessary. Perfect enforcer/4th big for us.

Think Ben Wallace back in the day, but half the playing time

This guy is beyond terrible :( Every time he steps on the court, the opposing team goes on a run.

I was hopeful when he came that he could change on a new team, but nope.

Yep, he's a pretty talented kid, but he's about as dumb as they come when it comes to basketball.

Is he even talented? Every play he makes seems to be idiotic. Plus, he has to be one of the worst finishers at the rim in the NBA.

True, he's idiotic and one of the most atrocious finishers in the league (surely you've heard "AYE! And one!" more than a few times by now when he's shoots at the rim...)

I guess I think he's talented because he has pretty good athleticism, an elite first step, can get to the rim whenever he wants (but it doesn't matter when he can't finish), good lateral quickness, can create his own shot, shows flashes of good playmaking (don't know if you've seen it with OKC but the second half of last year in Cleveland you could see it), and occasionally he gets hot and can't miss (his shot has been horrible this year though and I don't know why).

I'll always root for the kid because he seems really down to earth and always reps whatever team he's on, but unfortunately I don't know if he'll ever be able to put it together (and if he does it'll be after bouncing around the league).

I haven't seen Dion in any post game interviews or seen anything of him outside of basketball, so if he's a good guy then I can't really hate on him too hard. It just seems from his play that he's an arrogant, egotistical and selfish guy who only cares about getting his stats up. I mean, why else would you take so many step back contested jumpers instead of looking to facilitate to your teammates. Even writing this now and imagining his horrible high release shot makes me cringe.

Dion in terms of athletic ability doesn't strike me as anything above average. Perhaps I haven't seen enough of him, but right now I look at him as a slightly bigger version of Raymond Felton.

By down to earth I meant more that Dion doesn't put on a fake persona and actually speaks his mind, but yeah he's definitely pretty arrogant and his play doesn't back all his talk up.

And I don't know I think he's an above average athlete. I think he's probably carrying more weight this season because he definitely looks fatter, which limits his athleticism. Keeping his weight down has always been a problem and he should be playing about 15-20 points lighter.

Here's a video of some dunks of his these last 2 years where he shows some athleticism:

But yeah he has one of the lowest IQs in basketball so until he changes that, his play's not gonna change.

never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

The only thing that made Perkins bad was his contract.
Otherwise he is a great depth center to have on a roster and a lot of people simply don't understand his value as a player.
I hope we resign him next year at a league min.

I've never been clear on this, when a guy is traded he can't be resigned for a set period. Is that period cleared over the off-season? I would think yes, but I've never read one way or another.

Im under the assumption that expired contracts and the season ending, negate any kind of waiting period. Most waiting periods are x days within the season/contract or a date.

We could still definitely use this guy, especially if Memphis keeps that Randolph/Gasol duo. With Kanter we will score more... but so will they. Perkins, as a third string simply coming in to bang the crap out of ZBo and Mark would be fantastic.

Perkins is a bad basketball player but he will stick around in the nba for a while simply because there are a finite number of 6'10" and 260 lb people.

every team has to do right by itself. that's the responsibility of the management and coach. waiters may turn out to be just what the doctor ordered, so it's a wait and see
