MONROE FOR KNICKS' 1st?

Post#1 » by captainrebel » Sun Mar 8, 2015 3:42 pm

According to hoopshype.com the NY Knicks are “listening to offers for their 1st round pick.” I don’t put any stock into hoopshype news but, if Monroe insists on leaving does the Pistons have a chance? I would love for Monroe to stay but I think a top 5 pick or a proven top tier player in exchange for Monroe is probably the only deal I would like. So...

NY will have cap to sign him outright and Greg can not get extra year/higher raises in a SnT... so where is the incentive?

The Knicks wouldn't do that deal. Monroe is not worth that high of a pick, especially since he is about to get a max contract. Forget about it, getting their pick isn't a realistic possibility unless we're giving up Dre.

Damn! You are right. And they can still keep their pick unless Monroe agrees to a sign and trade.

So if we say sign and trade Monroe to New Orleans this summer, he doesn't get the 5th year and bigger raises?
If that's true then in my opinion we have a really good chance of keeping him.
And my theory of him and stan agreeing to hold off for one year so we can have lots of cap space this summer AND the benefit of going over the cap to sign him to a 5 year deal AND saving our 5yr rookie extension for Drummond all makes perfect sense now. Hmmmmmmm
I also believe Stan doesn't mind sacrificing this season for a high pick so he can get his SF of the future either.
If we get lucky to get Draymond or Harris to be our starter at SF and be our stretch 4 guy we are gonna be loaded.

Isn't Monroe an unrestricted free agent?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

There is absolutely no chance he would risk injury and forgo 3-4 years guaranteed to make an 8 figure salary just to give us more cap space this off season and allow both he/Dre to get 5 year deals potentially.

This was all about freedom. He wants final say on his future and what team he's going to commit to for the next 3-5 years of his career, rather than being limited as an RFA to a team that had just gone 4 seasons with 4 different coaches and didn't win more than 30 games in any of those seasons. And now he's going to get it.

Going....Going....GONE!

I still think he's going to the Pellies for Anderson and change.

Just lock this thread up. It's based off of incorrect information.
