Re: The official "Do we or don't we play with more energy & passion without DRose?" thread
Effort = / = Results
Many of the Bulls' losses this year have come due to not playing hard enough. Last night the Bulls played hard, they just didn't have enough to win. When the Bulls lost at home against Utah and Orlando, and got beaten by the Lakers, can you really tell me the Bulls were playing as hard as they could? Lack of effort can be measured by lack of defensive focus, not getting to loose balls, no sense of urgency from the opening tip, coasting, etc. We've seen a lot of that this year. If you had to point to one guy, Rose is the main culprit, in my opinion. He's looked to as a team leader, and the team follows his lead. If he's taking plays off then so is the rest of the team.

I don't think so. People are getting more opportunities especially with Rose, Butler, and Taj out so they're just trying to take advantage of it.
There were a lot of times this season where Rose, Taj, Pau, Noah, and even Butler seemed lazy. Especially, on switches and contesting shots... But, maybe I just have high expectations and still expect the Bulls to hold every team to 90ish points.

Re: The official "Do we or don't we play with more energy & passion without DRose?" thread
I think there is actually a very common missing superstar effect that teams muster, not unique to Derrick Rose being out.
Look at how hard Indy has been going this year without Paul George, compared to how lazy they finished last season.
It remains to be seen though just how long the team could keep such a thing up. They already looked typically tired last night. I think what really happened this year is at the beginning of the season the team was simply starting to buy into their own press clippings with Derrick finally 'healthy', basically getting over-confident with all the expectations on them, and this, combined with how hard they had already played for years with Derrick hurt, is what fed into some early season slippage.
I mean the lazy efforts started pretty much from the beginning, and why would the team have turned on Derrick that early, when every expectation was that he would be super rusty. Perhaps in some individual games, his excessive chucking might have hurt team cohesion or ball movement that night, but I never saw any ongoing or inter personal type strain there.
Certainly no evidence for this in his on/off splits. His meager stats this year entirely explain there being very little change in the team's performance with or without Rose, without having to look for some secret rebellion.

I've seen so much passion in these last two losses. So much energy. Take your time coming back Derrick.

Yeah, because those losses had nothing to do with missing Jimmy Butler and Taj Gibson, and teams are real successful playing 3 games in 4 nights against quality opponents on the road. Let's not spin some recent losses as the Bulls being desperate for Derrick Rose.

Have you seen our pg play lately? I know some here hold an intense grudge against Rose for how he has handled past injuries but to say we haven't missed him you're lying to yourself.

Re: The official "Do we or don't we play with more energy & passion without DRose?" thread
Let's not kid ourselves. If the Bulls were fully healthy they probably lose the last two games. Indiana is hot and Chicago was playing them in Indiana on the second night of a back to back where they were rested. San Antonio is also hot, rested and they are now fully healthy. Those are games most teams lose.
Regardless, the effort level seems to be a lot higher than it was earlier this year, even in losses. It makes the games more enjoyable to watch. Earlier this year when the team was basically mailing it in, they were painful to watch. Even when they won a game, it would be a few minutes of effort to get a big run then 40 minutes of laziness just hoping to hang on.
Is Derrick the reason for the change? I dunno. I will say that Derrick was the biggest offender of the low energy play on both sides of the court. I'm not sure if others were following his lead or something else was going on.

Nick friedell tweeted that Derek will have a press conference tomorrow before the Memphis game. I hope its not bad news.

He's required to talk to the media now.

Re: The official "Do we or don't we play with more energy & passion without DRose?" thread
Like others have said, it's really Noah being healthy and bringing the energy. Rose isn't that type of guy unless you piss him off. Noah is that guy unless he's hurt which is why I advocated heavily for bringing in an always energy guy to help out. Because you really need 2-3 guys bringing the energy which will infect your whole team.
Rose doesn't even get riled up when anyone has an awesome play, himself included for the most part. He sits at the end of the bench all the time, not really caring or getting up unless coach calls his number. You never ever see Rose lead a cheer, whereas before, he'd do it(just not as much as Noah). Nowadays, the vibe I get from him is that it's more of a job for him, whereas prior, he was having fun while trying to rip your heart out.
Do I think we play with better energy without him? I think we play with better urgency without him. Energy, not so much. It's indifferent when he's around because he does his own thing.

I think Rose should get a helluva lot of credit for increasing the team's winning percentage, even though his teammates apparently dog it and put forth less effort when he plays.

So instead of Rose making poor decisions and missing shots we have Brooks doing so. Pretty much par for the whole season.
You can make a pretty strong argument that the Bulls certainly aren't missing this season's version of Derrick Rose very much. The Bulls have dropped some much easier games this year with Rose than the ones they've lost to playoff teams with Rose out. There's nothing saying that having Rose would have made a difference.

We have a better chance with Rose then Brooks you can't possibly think it's the same level of chance.

Isn't really saying much, especially considering any starter being out pushes guys into roles they aren't comfortable playing, which is going to affect any team no matter what player it is.

Rose was getting better. His assists were up and turnovers down. His 3 pt attempts were down and FT attemps up. Most importantly, we were winning games. His defense is much better than Brooks', even when Rose isn't in top form. Have you seen what opposing PGs have done to us with Derrick out?
There is no logical argument that Rose isn't missed.

Oh sure, we play with more energy, but we just lost 3 games in a row. Terrible.
