Re: THE Aaron Gordon thread
I'd like him to play more of a Draymond Green role. Toughness on d, covering a range of players/positions. Blend in and don't mess up on offense. Make the extra pass. That kind of thing.
His potential and aspirations should be more than that, and getting a reliable jumper would be a huge step in the right direction. But defense and energy and playing within the offense are realistic goals for his sophomore season.

1. a more athletic, less selfish version of tobes with much better defense
2. shooting
3. fewer injuries, no more experiments with growing his hair out

This thought line answers all three questions. Gordon-A must work on his body. The major issue for management is how much mass he puts on. To much strength and he loses quickness. Not enough, and he will never be an elite defender in the post.

#4 overall pick that barely plays, always a good sign
aol4532 on bill russell
I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

1. Paul George/Kawhi Leonard that can slide into PF in a small ball lineup.
2. Creating his own shot and hitting jumpers.
3. Injury free, but also playing smarter on offense. He gets called for so many charges. That comes with inexperience as the vets on other teams are fooling him into charging.

THE Aaron Gordon thread
1. One of those analytics glue guys like Draymond Green that every team in the league thinks is the last piece they need to become contenders. Extreme flexibility on defense since he can switch on PGs to PFs. This seems to be the trend in modern defenses with GSW, Bucks, and 76ers. Not all of our guys are long but Aaron gives us a chance with that style.
2/3. Needs to shoot 3s at a 2-3 times higher rate and from everywhere on the floor. No more passing up open shots. Also, I don't expect him to suddenly develop a complete offensive game but he needs at least one other aspect to it, either cuts or isos or a counter move off a 3 point pump fake, etc. He is a project but 3s and one other move will help keep him on the floor until he rounds out his game.

I don't expect Aaron to fully develop for a good 2-3 years. People here just expect 19 year olds to show their Jordan skills before they learn Jordan skills.

Re: THE Aaron Gordon thread
I get more impressed with him with time, I think he will be a pretty good 3 or a small ball 4, depending on the defensive assignment. He will never be a star, but he may get pretty damn close to the point that Barkley talks about Aaron's All-Star snob. I think he works well with Tobias as a confusing wing duo as well. Should hit open 3s to have a place in this league, which is what I expect of him going forward.
That being said, I think he may be overshadowed by players who are drafted after him such as Exum, Smart, and our own Payton--and perhaps even Jusuf Nurkic and Randlle. This may negatively impact his development AND ultimately cost Henny his job.

"Aaron Gordon will cost Henny's job by Dec 2016." Predicted Dec 2014.
"O'Quinn will have a longer and more successful NBA career than Nicholson." Predicted Jun 2012. Verified on Dec 2014.

This is really the point of why Orlando drafted Gordon-A; potential. He is a very, very far off 2-3 years from being an effective starter. That is what GM Hennigan planned for. Why are we fans suprsed that a 19 year old combo forward who has struggeled with minor, non-lingering health issues does not have a major stat-line ???

People are so impatient. He has looked really good in games he has played a lot. His defense is really impressive and he is a better 3pt shooter than we thought. Gordon is really young and he needs time. I am not worried about him, he is a gamer.

Re: THE Aaron Gordon thread
Like most have stated he's a Matrix/Iggy type of player imo, borderline all star. I think improving his overall shooting (3's, FT, Mid range) would benefit him because of my third point. I would like to see him attack off the bounce as soon as he gets the ball instead of thinking about his next move.
1: Marion/Iggy.
2: Shooting.
3: Attack the basket off the dribble.

FYI. Rodman didn't even start playing College ball until he was 20. He was working at an airport at 19 years old. Some players don't become great until after they are 25 even like Chauncey Billups or Ben Wallace.

Yeah the people who are negative clearly don't watch the games. Is he Lebron James? No. But he has skills. He makes at least 1-2 amazing plays every time he's out there, mostly on the defensive end (like the transition block against the Celtics). He looks lost on the offensive end, but I think that's mostly because our team hasn't had much offensive strategy this year beyond PnRs. He needs 3 things to get better.
1). Minutes
2) Add mass in the off season
3) Get a good coaching staff to work with him
Unlike Harkless where you can see the talent, but his attitude gets in the way, Aaron has the right attitude and should succeed if given the opportunity.

We should consider ourselves blessed that Aaron gets to develop in peace. Exum was hyped through the roof and he's taken a lot of criticism. His defenders sound a lot like us: not much offensively yet but already making an impact defensively, which for Exum was a surprise.
I value peace and quiet on the Internet, so I'll take it.

Re: THE Aaron Gordon thread
I wonder if some even realise that we haven't really even given him a chance all season. He simply doesn't get a chance to go out there and let it all hang out and just play. The way our coaching staff have handled him this season has been a complete fail. The very, very few minutes that he does get he plays extremely unselfishly. Too unselfishly. But that's his game. He's not going to come in and jack up a lot of shots. He's a guy that is going to run offense, share the ball and look to score throughout the course of a game. He's not going to Ben Gordon or Jamal Crawford it and just come in and chuck. Yet at least once a game he'll do something to make your jaw drop. Whether it be a finish at the rim, a great pass or a defensive play. That's one of the great things about him. He has an all around game. We just clearly have some **** talent evaluators on this board.
Here's a little nugget for you -
Maurice Harkless this season... 31 GP, 14.4 MPG.
Aaron Gordon... 29 GP, 15.3 MPG.
