For Laughs and Heartbreak I guess
I still believe biggest reason Joe got Josh and made the trade for Jennings is because Gores wanted playoffs or bust, but it is what it is.
Middleton has been balling.
Look at this lineup
1. Knight
2.Middleton
3. Giannis (Greak Freak) maybe because we didn't have to draft a SG.
4. Moose
5. Dre
That would be a heck of a lineup defensively, very verasatile too. I actually didn't think Dumars was going to make moves that offseason, I didn't think Middleton would become this good either. It would've been a cool young team to watch.

Aw man, that just makes me sad. Could have been a very good defensive team indeed. Oh well, the only way we can have that now is in 2k

No point dwelling. We would have had to pay Middleton anyway if he played like this for us. I'd be down for giving for him anything up to 15/yr, he's exactly what we need and that contract won't seem so big in a few years.
If Knight was so great Milwaukee would've kept him. Good shooter, still doubts over his ability to run an offense.

It's a reach to assume we would have drafted the Freak, but I agree with your premise that "win now" pressure led to bad decisions on Smith and Jennings.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Phoenix gave up the Laker pick for Knight.

Re: For Laughs and Heartbreak I guess
I feel the same way about Dumars final moves but I'm really glad that we ended up with SVG in the end, even though it's his first year with the President title.. I believe he could end up having an even better tenure.
Anyway, onto paying Knight/Middleton/Moose max/near max on the same team ... that seems kind of crazy to me, but you're right about the defensive versatility and that would be some nice 3pt shooting in the backcourt. I guess we could have drafted someone else besides Giannis too, since he wasn't projected to go that high if I remember.. Or just still draft KCP and use Middleton at SF.

Heres hoping stan goes hard after middleton, bucks probably match anything up to 14-15 mil tho.I would rather max middleton than greg honestly, heres hoping greg makes it easy on us and makes the decision for us.

Joe D has a fabled history of selling low on good prospects for 'win now' moves. It's worked out brilliantly for him! He's unemployed and the Pistons are still trying to recover from all of his terrible moves.
I just want to say- thank god we lost the pick last year.

Is Middleton really a max player now? I haven't watched him play

People are going ga-ga over his per minute production, and defensive +/- rating. He's had a some nice scoring games as well, including a 30 point game a week or so ago. The term "max contract" is getting thrown around quite a bit. I doubt Middleton is offered a max contract. But, if a team really wanted him, I could easily see an offer in excess of $10 million to pry him away from Milwaukee.

Middleton would look good in Blue right now, but that has more to do with us having nothing at the 3 than Middleton being a star. He's averaging 13 points on good 3 point shooting. That's solid, but really, we should be able to sign that type of guy in free agency if we are willing to toss huge dollars at someone. Meeks put up those type of numbers and people thought half of that was an overpay.

KM has been an absolute beast since Knight was traded, he had 2 30 point games within a weeks span. He's averaging 19 points/5 boards/3 assists on 50% FG, 49% 3pt, 60TS while playing very good defense. Just last week, I thought 10-12 would be a serious overpay but now that he's been playing a great level since becoming the #1 option for the Bucks and is still only 23- KM likely gets paid based off his potential and not production. A SF that can get you 16-18 points while playing great defense is a guy that most teams will covet. It wouldn't shock me to see some team offer him the max but I think 12-14 is more likely.

That was Gores trying to save his $. Luckily he learned from his mistake and bit the bullet on J. Smith this year. Hopefully he sits back and lets the Basketball minds do the Basketball mves now. If you don't think Dumars wanted to buyout Gordon you might be on some of that Heisenberg ish

Re: For Laughs and Heartbreak I guess
The fact that we gave up Middleton and Knight for the privilege of signing Jennings really is terrible in hindsight.
Now we're stuck whether to max out KMid or not, funny how that works.

Well, it didn't seem so bad until Jennings went down. I'm not sure Middleton is so anxious to come back. Players are sometimes funny about the team that traded them away.

I don't think he wants to come back here either. I was just showing a pipe dream that was very possible. Possibly it was what Joe was wanting to do (not sure about drafting Giannis, but we would've needed a SF at the time not a SG, but even if it was still KCP, Middleton could've played the 3), but he knew that team wouldn't be able to make the playoffs, so he went out and signed Josh and got Jennings in hopes of making the playoffs to save his job. It's just a pipe dream tho

Looks like they'll play him primarily as a 2 guard though, one of the few teams that can afford to do that.
