Looking over their team sheet for this VFL match; and that's a really nice midfield. Guarin, Hernanes and Kovacec are a sweet trio with Medel in the holding spot. With Shaqiri and Icardi already there, that'd be a lot of raw talent with Jovetic coming in as well.

Which begs the question, how good is their coach? And do is their an obvious solution to their defensive questions this summer? Cause if the coach is good and the D gets addressed, on paper that should be enough to get them into one of italy's CL spots. I'm far from sold on mancini though, and don't know serie A well enough to know who they could bring in to fix the D.

Baphomet wrote:Good, I hope he goes to a team where he'll get significant playing time. He's much too talented to be wasted at City.

Agreed. Seeing him move to a club like Inter, Arsenal, Monaco, or Spurs, where he could shine if he stays fit would be awesome.

I think Mancini is a great coach. Under appreciated due to his failures in Europe with Inter...City just wasn't built for European success.
Even if nothing else, he seems to have an ability to attract top players to his side.
There is no obvious solution for the defense but they must upgrade over Ranocchia at CB, and then they are in much better shape. I assume they'll get somebody, if they have any brains at least.

Citeh aren't built to win in europe, but I also think Mancini did worse with them than they were capable of. Even though they're still not running through the CL like they do the EPL, they are playing closer to what they are capable of under pellegrini than they were under mancini. I'm not necessarily calling him a bad coach, cause his citeh tenure is the only part of his career I followed as it happened, but I definitely don't think he's great either...unless he's learned from his citeh mistakes, which this EL match makes me doubt.

That said he can certainly still change my mind depending on what he does with Inter in coming seasons cause I do love those midfielders; Shaqiri is a kid I like a lot and jovetic i love as well (if they add him); Poldi is good-PR in human form, so it's hard not to like that goofy idiot; and Handanovic spent years as europe's most under-rated top tier keeper. So I can certainly see that team becoming a lot of fun to watch if they make the right decisions, but we'll see if that happens.

For now I'm skeptical that mancini is capable of doing it and that management won't screw things up/not-do well enough.

I think City finally made it out of group stage, which was inevitable after a couple years of failing, and aided by Bayern taking Roma's mojo. They should have got destroyed by Barca first leg, probably will second leg. They also won't win the EPL.

I said Inter need to upgrade over Ranocchia, but then again he's their captain so I'm probably wrong about that even being possible.
Mancini was a complete goon today taking out Hernanes for Vidic who has sucked all season. Maybe they'll still be hopeless next year with a crappy defense, regardless of who the coach is. Mazzarri was thought of highly but his Inter has looked worse than Mancini's this sesason

City wasnt build for European success? Thats one of the lamest excuses whatsoever for a team that invested hundreds of millions.

you are right. I did not word it well but my point was that who ever tried building them for European success failed miserably

They aren't though. All of that money is spent on marginal tweaks to the parts of the pitch that aren't costing them and stars who work in overlapping areas. Sure Yaya, Silva and Aguero are great names with tremendous talent; but when all three have to play with two mids behind them and a striker in front to thrive, they can't shine against the best of the best. That team is built to roll through the EPL with fantastic cover for injuries/suspensions/rotation, but it's just not built for getting the best single game performances out of the total talent they've accumulated.

Strange transfer. I guess management doesn't believe much on Carvajal.

They spent similar money on Coentrao with Marcelo already in place back in the day. It's a similar luxury move bordering on waste, but they'll have an offensive option and a defensive option on each side now.

I've been reading this a lot, Dani Alves is off contract so it makes sense. I'm sure Barca will pull something out of their ass to replace him, they always do.

Carvajal is one of the best CB out there.... very underrated.... if anything, Danilo may play opposite of him.... but most likely will be going back n forth with Marcelo...

Coentrao is the man on his way out....

Danilo is a TOP 3 RB in world right now.
No doubt about that. I wish he would go for Barça, but...

Porto, always produce some of the best players in world.

If one of Douglas and Montoya is merely decent, they'll be fine. After all, merely decent is what Dani Alves is at this point.

Adriano is a reliable veteran option as well.
