Montrezl Harrell

Post#1 » by bleedblue3303 » Mon Mar 9, 2015 9:50 pm

Not a big college basketball fan. So don't watch too many games. But heard Patino after a game saying this guy never takes a play off. Plays every position like it's his last. Whats the scouting report on him? Didn't see anything on here so figured I would ask. Seems a little short for a PF. But does have 7'4" wing span. Could he play SF? Looking forward to hearing thoughts.

Too small to play center, too big to guard quick perimeter players.

His floor is Derrick Williams while his ceiling can be Taj Gibson.

Sigh... I really like him. I'm very high on his potential. I would compare him more to Josh Smith without the wild three pointers and a lesser vertical. I wouldn't compare him to Faried because he has a jumper, but he's no where near complex on offense as Gibson or Hickson. I also think he's better at defending around the rim than all three. Like Josh Smith rather than Blake a Griffin or Kenneth Faried, Montrezl uses his athleticism for defense and really excels with an open lane to the basket. He's what Josh Smith should have been. Largely underrated because he's been in the league for a while and only recently started to expand his offense.

Can he play small forward? No. He doesn't have the offensive skill-set for that right now. Can he defend a small forward? Probably as much as Joakim Noah can (which is actually pretty good for a big). It would be interesting to see him experiment with.

He is a late first pick at this point, he is more or less JJ Hickson.

He's a better defender and lesser scorer. There's more there than "more or less JJ Hickson."

But you're apparently the end all know all here and anything I say is blasphemy even though I'm right.

He is more of a Hickson/Thomas Robinson/Faried type of defender than he is Josh Smith, he also takes dumb shots now as an offensive player.
He is anyway a back-up big, in a weak-normal Draft that could be top20 worthy, in this deep class he will go in the twenties.

Watched a game of his against Kentucky. I didn't come away impressed, but I didn't focus on him, and I guess he's a guy you really need to watch off the ball.

if its the game from earlier this year he rebounded well and got a some bunnies when UK's bigs weren't as dilligent around the tin. Game was a good indication of what he might be in the pros due to the improve size and lenght he'd regularly face.

He sticks to his strenghts and stop shooting jumpers like its apart of his game and he'll be fine in the league.
