Lance Briggs officially done with Bears

Post#1 » by ADDinChicago » Fri Mar 6, 2015 12:09 am

The Bears announced today (what was expected) that they won't offer Lance Briggs a new contract.

I like what Lance did here in his prime (he and Urlacher were such a force together), but he's a shell of his former self and never got over Lovie Smith being fired and was a major detractor/distraction in the locker room since. Best of luck in your future, Lance.

I'm from Sacramento, Ca Briggs home town. Lance is a high school legend out here and also has a restaurant most of you heard about The Double Nickle.... it hurts me to see him go but his gas light is on.

Briggs and Urlacher will be considered one of if not the best LB combo Chicago has ever seen. Only thing holding them back as concensus #1 is sexy rexy's superbowl performance.

I feel no ill will against Urlacher, but Briggs on the other hand I feel like quit on the team when Lovie was fired. I think his actions show proof of that.

When Lovie was fired Briggs essentially was done too. Can't blame the guy going from Lovie to Trestman's locker room. If you want to label Briggs a quitter then you need to expand that list to include a bunch of current Bears players.

Except Briggs quit the moment Urlacher and Lovie left. The others at least didn't until last year's disastrous season.

I'm not just talking about his on field performance but his off field actions as well. The year before last he got fat during the season. This past years stuff is already documented.

He deliberately half assed it his last two years here.

Maybe he can go down to Tampa with Melton, Conte and whomever else wants to go. They can all have one big reunion and go 3-13.

I just feel bad Peanut's going to get lumped in. He was nothing but a team player and couldn't help that his body is just breaking down. Him, I wish the best for outside of Chicago. He actually helped the team despite not being happy by mentoring guys and being open to the Trestman staff. What I don't get is if Briggs hated it so much here, why not ask for a trade 2 years ago?

Maybe Briggs was loyal in his own way.

Return to Chicago Bears
