Can Mudiay really improve his shooting over time? How many players are success stories in that department?

While Russell may lack athleticism, and may not be a pure PG, why can't he be a SG with handles? Why can't you pair him next to a pure PG who can defend and hit an open shot, and make it work?

Russell is not a good athlete. And good shooters in college who shoot well over 45 % from the 3pt line who were also not good athletes struggle once in the NBA. See Nik Stauskas and Doug Mcdermott as examples.

Neither one of those players have near the athletic ability of Russell. If you don't believe your own eyes, there are other statistical indicators (Steals, rebounds, length) that tell you just that.

I don't think Nik Stauskas is a bust, not yet at least. I think he's going to be a good player in this league, some players take more time than others to adjust in this league, we've all seen it happen many times before.

Staukas isn't even that bad of an athlete...that was legit his claim to fame and to why he went in the lottery. He was a shooter who was a solid athlete too...and he had handles.

I like Stauskas still, too, and would gladly take him off SAC's hands. The MIA pick (12?) and the LAL pick (2016) for SAC 1st (7?) plus Stauskas? I'd do that if any of S. Johnson, Hezonja, or Porzingis was still there at SAC's pick. Is that a terrible offer? :dontknow:

I think the draft order is currently Towns, Russell, Okafor, Mudiay. Okafor will be Al Jefferson (tell the truth, does that excite anybody?), and Mudiay couldn't hit the water shooting out of a boat in the middle of the ocean, but his athleticism is Westbrookian. As always, just my opinion.

I imagine Karl goes for more win now moves...I could see them moving the pick for a vet. They don't really need another guy who has to find his way

That is what I just posted in another thread. Karl will likely sell his Lottery pick to a team that not only gives him a solid NBA Veteran player. But one who can take the contracts of players like Thompson and Carl Landry off their salary Cap.

I hate to say this because I have been so hard on Mudiay. I have compared him to the Harrison twins instead of Russell. I still have my doubts about his shooting and hate that he can't shoot but I may take him over Russell now.

Even with his poor shooting mechanics right now, I just feel since Mudiay is a true set-up PG. And given his great size strength and athleticism, I feel that he would be a target of Hinkie's before Russell. Just a hunch is all. But I remember watching a lot of video of him when he was regarded right there with Okafor as the Nations leading High Schooler. And I haven't seen a young PG as dominating as Mudiay.

He seems to have all the speed and quickness that Rose and Wall had at the same age. Only both Rose & Wall only had that one gear when playing which was all out super speed and athleticism. As where to me Mudiay seems to use not only that speed & quickness. But he has a supremely hard to defend stop & go...Lull you to sleep and BAM go by you type of move. Of course a lot about Mudiay and his draft stock will be answered once here for the combine and all the Individual workouts he goes through. That will tell the final tale on him.

The more I watch Russell the more I think he may have problems driving to the lane. He also seems to settle for far too many jump shots. You can make a living off that and even be a very good player. There is only one bonifide star in this draft and he is Towns. We aren't hurting for big men either.

I still haven't seen Mudiay a lot and am still really concerned with his poor shooting. I also think Hinkie hates PGs who can't shoot and wants the floor spread with Embiid. I really don't know. I can't explain it. If Mudiay is on our team I'm going to hate him in late game situations. He seems to be able to penetrate better and create his own shot.

This will be very unpopular but I'm at the point of being content even if we are drifting outside the top 4. I'm good with Hezonja.

Ish' semi success has made that less of an issue to me. He is just as bad of a shooter and Mudiay probably...so the question is can Mudiay get to the rim/paint at will to negate that.

Plus from what I have heard, Mudiay's jumper issues is that he shoots on the way down moreso than any jumpshot form issues..so there could be some hope there too.

Ideally we would get a guy who can hit 3s and get to the rim at will...but they don't grow on trees lol.

We aren't contending next year so we can afford to wait a little bit and see if guys can overcome some flaws still. The team doesn't need to be perfect yet

So you chose two rookies, one of whom has been injured a significant chunk of his first season, as your examples? They can still end up being good NBA players, you know?

Russell all day. I think we win champion ships with his playing style over Mudiays.

Overall I'd take Russell by a small margin, for the Sixers I would take him by a large margin. His shooting is the biggest thing that separates the two when it comes to fit with Philly, we're gonna need that spacing when Embiid comes back.

The easiest answer is yes, I would take either one.

I think Mudiay has higher upside, and I think Hinkie would take Mudiay if it came down to both. That said, I'd be fine with either.

All the way Russell. I really hope we end up with him. As much as I wanted to get a top 2 pick last year for Wiggins or Parker. Is how much I would be okay drafting 3rd and picking Russell this year.

Russell hasn't even declared yet. What's taking so long?
