Rodgers: Raheem Sterling Isn't Going Anywhere

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Mar 14, 2015 6:44 pm

Brendan Rodgers remains "relaxed" about the future of Raheem Sterling at Liverpool even though contract talks have been put on hold.

Sterling is currently signed until 2017, but discussion to extend it until 2020 began in October.

Rodgers said on Jan. 22 that agreement on a new deal was "very imminent," but Sterling has still not signed, and further discussions have now been delayed until the end of the season.

Reports have linked Sterling to Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

Rodgers said: "There's nothing new to report. I'm quite relaxed about Raheem's situation. He's not going anywhere in a hurry. He's still got this year and another couple of years to go on his contract.

"I think it's quite obvious if you look at his situation that anyone who has the best interests of Raheem in mind will see that Liverpool at this stage is the best option for his career.

"He's just turned 20 in December, and he's made 114 appearances in that period, which is a remarkable amount at a club of this size for a young player to be given that opportunity.

"He's made it clear himself that he loves being here. I think he said that for any young player, this was the best place to develop. That makes me quite relaxed about the situation. I'm sure the club and his representatives will find a solution.

"We have the track record here of developing talents, bringing them through and giving them the opportunity. There will be more of those players like Raheem will get the opportunity."
