Predict Jackson's next contract (votes can be changed)

Post#1 » by Laimbeer » Mon Mar 16, 2015 5:30 pm

Predict if Jackson will sign with Detroit and his average salary.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Pistons 10-11. I think his value has dropped since turning down that extension with OKC, and then obviously things not going great here. I think SVG sticks with him, but hopefully won't have to compete with many other suitors (or Dumars' case, compete with himself) to resign RJ.

Maybe a bit more of a prove it deal, with a higher team option in a couple years that they can pick up if he proves his worth + the new tv deal? Just a guess

Since we simply have to match other offers, I'm hoping no one else goes above the 8-9M range. Who would offer more?

If it wasn't for the huge jump in 2016-17 in the salary cap, I would say 8-9. But I went with 10-11. And it has been tough on him - learning a new system on a below average team that has been mostly on the road since he joined the team. I expect things to pick up a bit down the stretch and he will be in a position to cash in. And it will probably cost us a couple of lottery slots as well as RJ leads us to some unexpected victories to finish the season. :-(

I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

We have a very limited handful of games under the conditions you described versus a few years of play that led a competent (and tight) organization to offer him 4/48. The first few years and OKC's offer still hold more weight for me, though I acknowledge I can't be as sold on him as I was when we originally acquired him.

I hope we don't go over 10 mil, I'm used to the fact that Stan will match since he did trade for him and RJ is his first "big" trade acquisition.

Sigh, I hope someone offers him a contract beyond that and we don't match.

i'm gonna go bold here and say we agree to sign & trade him for spare parts, basically what we gave up for him. no use in throwing big money at a guy to try and force him to fit. i'd rather move forward with jennings, dinwiddie, and whatever corpse is our 3rd string PG than to throw 10+ million at jackson.

if we can hit on our draft pick, and nab at least ONE quality FA (tobias), then we'll be in very good shape.

10-11, maybe 12 or more if a team is really planning ahead with the future cap numbers. If Kemba Walker can get paid in that range, I'd imagine Reggie can too.

Kemba is significantly better than Jackson though. I think some foolish GM is going to pay Reggie but it just better not be SVG

4 yrs 48M - what he turned down supposedly with the Thunder. I don't think you try and nickle and dime him to a lower number based on his 3rd of a season here if you want to have a fruitful and long term relationship with him. With the cap exploding the next off-season that extra million or so you could probably play hardball with him and save won't be much of a big deal anyways.

I voted $10-$11M, which keep in mind will be a bargain deal once the cap hike comes in 2016 (which makes me think Jackson may actually risk playing next year on his QO rather than sign such a contract, but that's another thread unto itself).

But another kinda-fun thought — SVG the GM has been classy, but ruthless in doing what he feels is best for the team (see the way he handled Jennings with the Jackson trade and the way he handled cutting Smith). So, if we strike gold on lotto night and wind up drafting, say, Russell (which would happen before free agency) ... does our GM simply tell Jackson, "Sorry, business is business," and let him walk? Or are they both enough of combo-guards to play together, meaning that it's KCP who gets the "business is business" speech and gets moved to the bench (or moved outright)?

I also picked the 8-9 range and see pretty much everyone thinks that as well.

Thought this was worth a kick at this point. Please note you can change your vote.

Predict Jackson's next contract

Post#17 » by A_dub06 » Wed Mar 25, 2015 11:18 am

If he keeps this kind of production up I think $12-13m. I really don't see any other team offering more than that.

I'm a Jackson advocate but if he thinks he's getting Bledsoe money id tell him to prove it and see what he gets offered.

we obviously shouldn't bid against ourselves, but if jackson continues this torrid play through the end of the season, believe he'll be getting "bledsoe money" or "lowry money" or "a lot of f/ucking money", whatever you wanna call it, he'll get paid.

Bledsoe was and is one of the more questionable contracts. Also, wasn't he more established than Reggie? That's why I'm hoping we get him for a bit less. He still seems like more of a gamble than Bledsoe was.
