Cowboys agreed to terms with LB Andrew Gachkar, formerly of the Chargers, on a two-year contract worth up to $5.5 million.
A 2011 seventh-rounder out of Missouri, Gachkar played a career-high 395 snaps on defense last season. He primarily functions as a run stopper on the inside, but holds his own in coverage. Also a core special teamer, Gachkar helps the Cowboys replenish their linebacker depth. Justin Durant and Bruce Carter departed in free agency, while free agent Rolando McClain is up in the air.
Got to admit. I have no clue who this is.

Andrew Gachkar - LB
His primary job will be ST. Occasionally he will backup the LB's.

$5.5 for 2 years not per season. He will challenge for a starting position and yes will be a key guy on ST.

He isn't going to get that $ amount if he plays STs. Seems the Cowboys FA contract this year have included various PT and performance bonuses and escalators. Great idea IMO, but it gets tricky against the cap. If I remember the language it is all bonuses that are likely to be paid count against the current year cap.

I think all contracts should be a incentive (what have you done) based contracts myself. I know they wont be, but that is how I feel.

It all depends on the structure and most (I'm assuming) contracts have some type of incentive or escalator even if it is just being on the roster as of the 3rd day of the NFL season guarantees your salary the following year. Even Tom Brady could have an incentive based contract that goes higher if he lets say wins a SB or something. Sean Lee has incentives for playing time. But, true incentive based contracts usaully have small signing bonues and guaranteed money. Players focus on the guaranteed moeny. So you tend to not get "good" players to agree to that.

The good players you get to sign incentive based contracts are coming of injury or legal problems.

Same here, I don't know a thing about the guy. However we need all the help and depth at LB we can get.
