People need to stop saying VINTAGE D-Wade

Post#1 » by WadeInTheWater » Tue Mar 17, 2015 6:52 pm

Because it implies the guys game went somewhere and every now and then he pulls out a rare rabbit from his former glory. The FACT is Dwyane Wade can't be vintage because Dwyane Wade NEVER went anywhere. When he's healthy, he's the best in my opinion. I've always said he's been the best shooting guard in the NBA since he was drafted and yes i'm including Kobe in that convo and i still believe it to be true right now. There were years were the media couldn't stop nuthugging LeBron so guys like Wade and others got pushed to the shadow even though he was playing like the best player in the league and also proving it in the playoffs pre Big 3.

Long story short this nostalgia crap is annoying me because Wade is not going anywhere and neither his is all-time elite game.

I agree. It's annoying as hell.

33 mintues of play: 29/4/5/2 on 54% FG, 40% 3-PT FG and 83 FT% (9 FTA/g) in his last 6 games. He's just back to '10 Wade IMO

People will stop saying that when these performances, like what you saw last night, aren't every so often instead of on most nights like he used to.

Spo said it was vintage last night

There is a reason why people say vintage. He doesnt do this every night. He has spurts and rampages and then gets hurt and we have to start this **** all over again

While I agree that Wade used to have great performances like this every night, when you say vintage you make it sound like he's washed up. It's not vintage it's just him having a great game. If he was at a point in his career where he was averaging 8 ppg and suddenly he drops 30 then it should be called vintage but as of now. D. Wade just had a great game.

Some of you need to stop being delicate about this and accept it. With a vintage wade, we would easily be a top 3 team, without bosh.

Its a fact.

Flash would dominate this league scoring close to 30ppg.

Right now, dude barely gives us a quality 35mpg.

It is what it is. Move on.

Wade used to be a beast on another level. He used to massacre other teams regularly. He isn't washed up but he isn't as explosive as he used to be.

I don't really care how it's labeled, the facts are :

1) Wade is still a very good player, top 3 SG when healthy.
2) He's not as consistent as he used to be, due to health and age.
3) Even when he's playing great and being a top 3 SG, it's not "vintage Wade" because "vintage Wade" was the best player in the NBA. That dude is gone, father time catches everyone. Even when he's playing great these days, it's not the same type of game he used to play in his prime. It's still great, but a bit less impactful, and it's a different style of play. That's just natural, players change and evolve, some better then others. Luckily Wade is smart enough to be great in 2 different ways - as an athlthic freak (prime "vintage" Wade) and as a crafty talented veteran (current Wade).

Just be thankful we've got him, don't care how it's framed as long as he's healthy and playing great.

Saying vintage Wade doesn't mean he isn't a great player anymore. It just shows how good he used to be, which people tend to forget.

yeah man, i could care less what people call it or how much they doubt him - he's been an underdog all his damn career. all i care about is that he is healthy enough to give us those games they want to call 'vintage'. They could call it Pork-Pie just as long as his doing it and not sitting on the bench in a suit.

He has so few season left to get another title - i just hope Riley can fast track things further - strengthen our sorry bench, stack the team further and get crackin' on that 4th title before Wade's retirement. One more ring, especially w/out Lebron will more than seal Wade's legacy and will be a very fitting exit for a true champ and underdog of the league, who achieved things against all odds.
If u don't want 2b here, the way things work, u don't like it, then don't b here. U have 2 stand on something. If Miami ain't standing on something, they become alot of these organizations trying 2 find their identity. This is the culture, bro -Wade

Vintage doesn't actually mean old or best. It's just a tag of a year to a production. If you want to refer to Dwyane Wade's playing this season, you could say vintage-2015-Wade and mean right now. In wine, there are many bad vintages.

if it bothers you then its your business, its does not bothers me because we all know that he cant be explosive on a consistent basis anymore.accept it or not,he has injury issues due to the nature of his body, age and the way he has played the sport with reckless abandon.yesterday's performance is an anomaly for him now than the rule.there's also another aspect of this as well, there have been times in which he hasnt shown up and has looked up rather lazy on both offense and defense.and lastly, when his coach and friend spo tells the media that yesterday night was vintage dont you think that he was telling the truth? when he is semi healthy like he is right now i can expect from him 17 to 26 points easily and thats if he shows motivated to play...

I agree 1000% with what the OP is saying. Fact of the matter is, if we were actually playing for something you'd see these games from Wade a lot more often. It isn't the best player in the league anymore, but he's still a top 7 player and the BEST SG in the league (yes, better than Klay) when he tries and I would debate anybody on that.

It is more than obvious half the time that he is pacing himself until the end of games to potentially try to win it for us, which is annoying to watch as a fan, but still understandable. But if we were actually a playoff team, do you really think we'd see a bunch of halves were Wade only shot the ball like 8 times with no FTs??? Please.

A vintage game to me is more like Brandon Roy game 4 vs. the Mavs in the playoffs.....but I get it. Bruh, back in the day I knew we had a chance every game as long as we had Wade in the line-up. Shaq era, Marion era, JO era...when he's not injured there's no denying he was on the top. As a fan, you still gotta feel blessed seeing him out there. Might not pull off those games he used to do in a nightly basis but when healthy and motivated I'm never doubting Flash

With that said, I hope we have one more championship run in us before Wade and Riley and UD are gone.

Wade is not better than Harden at this point. Wade lacks the consistency to be on that level, as you essentially said yourself. He's had his fair share of great games, so I wouldn't go as far as calling the Cavs performance an anomaly like eddieheatfan does because that's exaggerating it way too much, but Wade will miss games and he will have nights where he just doesn't have it. It's mainly the result of his meniscus removal, which he can't be faulted for. The claims that support the notion of his injury problems being mostly his fault are ridiculous though.

I also don't agree with your opinion of Wade performing this way more often if we were playing for something. We are playing for something, which is making the playoffs and then seeing what happens. If you're a competitor, you don't care how good your team is, you just wanna win at all costs. Wade is a competitor, otherwise he wouldn't be where he is. For health reasons, he just can't bring it every night the way he used to, that's the truth people have to accept. He still has enough great nights to easily consider him being an All-Star who is also worth every penny of his contract. But don't kid yourself thinking Wade could perform like a superstar almost every night the way he used to. His body won't give him that.

I agree, I long advocated for Wade being the best SG but the Harden has surpassed him. Doesn't mean Harden is anything close to prime Wade, it just means he's better than current Wade due to consistency.

Wade will be better than Harden in the playoffs this season. Wade is now back to being the undisputed #1 option in Miami and will surprise alot of people that still think he is similar to when he was taking a backseat to LeBron. Harden hasn't done ^#&@ in the playoffs and I don't think with his current style of play, he would be as effective in a situation where the refs are more apt to swallow their whistles.

I don't like it either, but Wade absolutely looked vintage against the cavs. Not even 08-09, his game looked straight out of 06
