Hoping for Kuba or Kirch to come on for Sven or Subotic early in the second. Though I might just make it a double swap at the half. Sokratis moves in to CB, Kuba takes his spot on the right, Kirch steps in at the 6. Then they could break this D down cause Juve are leaving plenty of space and are shutting it slowly, Dortmund are just way too slow and sloppy to take advantage of it and turn this tie around because of the limited skill guys that are holding them back. If Klopp isn't aggressive enough they'll need Mats, Reus or Ilkay to just take over if they hope to pull it off.

Again the problem today is that Schmelzer and Sokratis are not making any runs to the opposing base line. Plus their crosses (well Sokratis doesn't even do any) are going everywhere from the opposite corner, to right into Buffons hands or goal kick but not on the head or foot of a yellow player.

The FBs were a problem to, which is why I wanted Kuba to come on at RB at the half and would've started him there if he was fit enough to handle a full 90. But their attacking play sputtered because they lacked that safe option at the 6 through whom they could quickly swing possession and secure any lost balls that squeaked past the first line of the press. Sahin does those things well, even though he hasn't been as good as he used to be, and that's why their performances swings so drastically depending on if he's fit or not. Not having that kind of player slowed them down in their build up and handcuffed Ilkay with needing to play the recycler/DLP role as well as his usual creative-B2B role, it also made them easier to get the ball away from, and led directly to a handful of changes in possession thanks to Sven's sloppy touch and passing.

A FB would be the third priority though, and a healthy Piscz would've made a huge difference in that first half as well. Geis, Horn and Rahman are the three they absolutely must sign for next season...though if they could do that and add that hoppenheim duo to replace Miki as well, that'd be even more perfect.

Anyway glad for Juve, I was rooting for BVB but tevez and morata delivered and that midfield has a lot of talent. I still think that backline will get taken advantage of by the teams that aren't as sloppy and slow with their possession as BVB was today, but Buffon really has aged phenomenally well and if they keep snagging early leads they can keep playing this way. Hope they get a good draw and aren't massacred in the next round.

Dortmund was also healthy at the beginning of the season...and Weidenfeller/Durm/Subotic hadn't yet started the worst seasons of their careers...so they were contenders if everything that could go wrong, hadn't gone wrong for them.

This team isn't winning **** healthy or not. And yeah, Roman has had an awful season but that's his own fault. No excuses.

doubt monaco can beat anyone in the next round. I doubt juve will waste the amount of clear cut chances we got or gift 2 goals. They won't be able to create anything as long as you don't implode.

Hijinks wrote:gotta hand it to juve. they were not playing typical italian in the first half. acutally very active on offense. it's just, that their transition defense is really strong. dortmund of course too slow, but juve always is set on defense. really impressive and deserved win.

well, now let's concentrate on the league and the german cup.

this is quite an annoying myth to deal with, italian teams dont play defensive anymore, the top italian teams are actually very open attacking sides. allegri is even more of an attacking manager than conte too.

that said juve do have a very compact and organized defense when they want to.

its funny, everyone doubted juve going into this tie despite dortmunds horrible form, and after two impressive and convincing wins they are somehow still getting doubted. juve arent as good as barcelona, but that doesnt mean they suck.

also tevez 2 goals and an assist tonight, not so bad for a player who isnt world class right?
