The dude has loads of potential. Very athletic with a good jumper. Im impressed with his first step driving into lanes. Also his defense looked good. What you think of as a comparison for him?

Yea the defense is very promising too in that vid. Mario has it all from where I stand, but ive only seen clips and highlights. He has a good motor (ibraheim's fav word) and you can tell hes the opposite of soft.

Idk about a comparison. Some people throw out Drazen. Most Euros arent as athletic as Mario is, and the ones who were like Vesley had no skills. Doesnt have to be compared to Euros though. He just has star swingman potential.

A rookie ray allen? I may be off. I was pretty young when he was coming out of college

Not even close.

Did you go the school of Doc Harvey where the biggest lesson learned is putting the seasoned senior who is closer to a finished product on a pedestal over the incomplete young freshman?

If he did go to the school, he failed the emoji class. Harvey always uses " :o ." Aside from that, spot on.

That kid Jordan Sibert on Dayton is a baller. Would love to bring him to our Summer League team and see what he can do. Ultra competitive player.

D'angello Russell Passing/Court Vision vid. Dude throws bullet no look passes all day

not even gonna front like i don't like this kid. i wouldn't even trip if we came out of the draft with dude. his game screams triangle, which is probably exactly why phil went to go see him personally.

shoot, drive, pass... he's got those functions down. and he'll find that cutter no matter what.

drafting him could make the FA plan shift toward where the market is going to be strong. save some bread on danny green and middleton. nab kawhi if he's down to jump ship.

not sold on maxing out dray solely because of fit. i think he is ideal at the 3. i think phil wants to preserve melo by keeping him out of the 4 and using him like Team USA did, which is ideal. he's still that elite weapon. instead of giving supreme effort banging on the glass all night, he can give it staying in front of 3s.

still holding out pipe dream hopes for the marc gasols, LMAs of the world. greg monroe wouldn't be the worst if we could then bring in or retain a true gargbage man in the frontcourt with him and melo.

if you draft russell:

backcourt:

russell/calderon/galloway
butler -- danny green -- middleton/shvedgod/THJ

frontcourt:
melo/whoever
monroe -- draymond green -- millsap (please god)/amundson
garbage man big (koufos? hungry hustler a la amundson?)
RIP magnumt

thanks for everything, thibs.

Is Phil still trying to nab that #1 spot or is he looking to drop a bit?

Nice post. What I can tell from the post, the drop off from the top 4 is significant. Glad we're within it.

And this is based on...what, exactly?

Well he stated " In the present day in the NBA, 19 -20 year olds, coming into the league, it's really hard to project what that player will be in his 1st contract situation...."
To me I sense that he has some reservations about the pick and hence his preference to rebuild through free agency. Again like I stated before I could be wrong I am by no means an expert here, but since there is no guarantee u can get one of the top 4 free agents, why not tank and get the worst record and guarantee yourself one of the top 4 draft picks? I guess he believes the free agents he will sign are gonna be better that the top 4 draft picks because the knicks could potentially play themselves out of the top four and I don't see the logic in that.

I don't think that's him being afraid. It's him stating the obvious.

It's a lot easier said than done to "tank." GMs might want to lose games to get a better pick, but players and coaches don't intentionally lose. Anyone who has ever played any competitive sport knows this.

Not necessarily true. I recalled Cavs hired John Lucas as coach and proceeded to lose as much as possible during the Lebron sweepstakes. Don't forget the Coach is still an employee and reports to the GM/President . If there is a consensus among the front office/coach to lose some games, the coach has to follow the decision, all in the best interest of the team's future.

I wanted And1 the post that said Jackson went personally to scout Russell but couldn't find it. It's very very telling that Jackson has been asked to personally screen a player. BTW PJax came away very impressed.

Tournament starts in 5 min. We will see who makes a name for themselves! I know we are going to come away with either Towns, Okafor, or Russell, but I want to see who else elevates their game for a late first/second round selection because I think Phil is going to try and acquire another pick. Remember Langston Galloway and Temple almost knocked off Uconn in the first round last year and many scouts said the best player on the floor was Galloway.

Let the games begin!

I'm really hoping D'Angelo Russell at least takes control of the ball and steps up on the big stage. He's deferred so much over the past few weeks with that hammy injury. Hoping with some time off, he's had the time to rest and rehab.

I am excited to watch the Ohio State game today to see him in action. Took the day off. And Towns later tonight. Okafor will be tomorrow.

Ugh.. don't remind me. It's St. Joe's btw. That was one of the toughest L's as a fan of sports teams I've ever endured. That St. Joe's team was so much fun and horribly underseeded by the committee because they wanted the potential philly big 5 match up in the second round with Nova. Gave UConn their best shot in the whole tournament and outplayed them for 38 1/2 minutes and without being biased, yes Galloway was by far the best player on the floor that day. Him and Deandre Bembry (who is the most underrated player in the NCAA right now) absolutely shut down Shabazz.

Ahhh my bad, your right it's St. Joes. I remember watching...crazy game. UConn had to make a late comeback if I remember correctly.

Yes. We were leading the whole way UConn's last possession they were down by 3 and we were able to force a contested 3 and miss but our starting big man (Halil Kanacevic) who was such a unique player. Could see the floor like a guard and lead a fast break while having some great post moves as well missed his assignment boxing out and DeAndre Daniels grabbed the rebound over him and put it back and got fouled to tie it up. Lang got a decent look the next play to win it and just missed. It was literally one of the worst plays for us because we only went 6-7 deep and that was his 4th foul going into OT. Once he fouled out in OT we had no chance he was our version of Marc Gasol he kept the offense moving through the high post. That team deserved so much more than that. But, hey at least we lost to the champs.

By NO means is that guaranteed! :o

We could well come away with WCS, Kaminsky, or one of those Euros.
Tanking again, I suppose. Is there any other way?

Nothing is a guarantee Doc, but if we have a top 3 pick, one of those guys will be ours, even though I have a sneaky suspicion that Phil may like Hezonja a lot.
