WTF just happened? How is Tomas any different from Tanaka, Abreu, Darvish et al who were taken in the FA draft? Can we have some clarification on whether it was his age that is the determining factor?

I don't have a problem with this, just need to have the rule clarified on who gets to be eligible for the FA draft vs the prospect draft.

It's basically subjective, which might be a weakness of the process, but I think it keeps things pragmatic. Tomas is 24 years old, a normal age for a prospect. He is in spring training, but is by no means guaranteed an MLB roster spot, let alone a starting spot. I don't think price tag should necessarily matter, that's more of a market/rules fluctuation.

Tanaka, Abreu and Darvish were all 100%, surefire major leaguers from Day 1 and I think that's, in the end, the tipping point.

Where do we draw the line of who is an international prospect and who is an immediate professional? I think it's best approached on a case-by-case basis, but if you guys want to set firmer guidelines the majority always rules here.

And BTW, Raisel Iglesias is another player I tend to regard as a prospect and not a professional.

Sorry but a $60M deal means they didn't sign you to start in the minors. There's no way I pick Gonzales over him if I knew he was considered a prospect. I wonder how many others thought the same?
