What do you think we could get for the #1 pick if we win the lottery?

Post#1 » by theBigLip » Fri Mar 20, 2015 5:39 pm

After so many years in the lottery, one of these years we will get lucky. Hopefully this is the year. So if we were to win, it would seem like Towns is likely the top prize (some arguments for Okafor, Russell, but it doesn't really matter for this exercise). So if we have the #1 pick, what is the most that we could get for it if we were to trade down?

So for the other teams in the lottery, it would probably start with their lottery pick, but each would have to throw in some significant sweetners. Maybe future unprotected firsts? Right to swap future firsts? Maybe we could get an All Star SF from some team?

Just curious what you guys think...

Probably a 2013/2014 lotto top 10 lotto player + 2015 pick.

So like exum and #9 for #1

I'm taking Towns unless we could trade it for a George, Leonard or Butler type of player which isn't happening.

I keep it unless Milwaukee called and offered Jabari Parker and their 2015 pick for it with the idea being they need a franchise center and happy with development of wing players this season.

I thought about that as well. I think bucks would be all over it too.

Including their first might be asking a bit much, but hell why not try it. Combine the two drafts and I think Wiggins, Parker, Embiid would still go 1-2-3 this year, with Towns and Russell rounding out the top five. Of course ACL injury/surgery lessens his value as it adds uncertainty/red flags.

They would have to add the first though given Jabari just tore his ACL and could be damaged goods for all we know.

I doubt it, but it would be interesting if it could fetch Wiggins.

Maybe Randle and the Lakers #1?

I would want Wiggins or one of the top 4 picks this year plus something else.

I think plan A would be try to convince the #2 team to give up an asset to secure Okafor, then take KAT at #2. If we can't make that happen, then weigh taking Okafor or Towns for ourselves. I'm a Buckeye fan and love Russell, so I could live with moving down to 3 or 4 if we got something really good (an unprotected future 1st at least).

I hate the Milwaukee idea people are bringing up. Jabari couldn't guard anyone in the NBA with two ACLs, you guys want to gift them one of the most hyped big man prospects for a guy with a blown ACL and some mid round junk? Plus Okafor would play in our division? Pass.

I think Okafor would have been #1 between the two classes, especially given Embiid's injury concerns.

Agree with this. Considering the top pick will be a center, and we already have one, it seems to make sense to trade down if we can get two major assets. So trading down to get Russell (a PG or SG?), and another starter seems to e a good trade, although none of the top lottery teams have great assets besides future draft picks.

Bucks can keep Parker. I would rather have the Greek Freak and a pick.

If we got the #1, I would target Russell who I think will be in contention for #1 when its all said and done. If not, I would want to trade down to 2/3 to grab him and just land an additional 1st rounder + an asset

If we acquire the #1, i'd look at whomever is at 3-5 and see what they'd give up to move up to take okafor. some form of their first+player . From there i'd choose, Towns, Russel, Oubre, hezonja in that order.

Magic- i'd ask for Vuc
Minny- Wiggins i think is untouchable, i'd go after Lavine
76er's- both their first rounders
NY- hang up the phone

If we somehow came out with the top pick, I'm not trading it unless we're getting a sure thing in return. My asking price would likely be more than any team would be willing to pay, as I'd want a franchise player in return for it- or a player on the cusp of making that leap.

Otherwise, I keep it and either draft Russell or KAT.

-I doubt it too, I wouldn't if I was Minnesota. Why trade for an unknown when you can have a guy you know what is already capable of (which looks really good) on the NBA level :P

-If I'm the Lakers, I don't want to do it. I'd rather have Randle/Johnson or Randle/Russell then just Towns or Okafor. If I'm Detroit, I do it because I like Russell or Johnson a lot and Randle might help fix the problem of losing Monroe. Drummond/Randle/Johnson/KCP/Jennings or Jackson would do a lot for me.

Anyway, if Detroit wins the lottery.. after doing all the workouts and combine, I would probably just take my favorite guy. I wouldn't want to risk losing him by moving down a spot or two :P

So much of this is pure conjecture, as we're speculating not only about us winning the lottery, but where all the other lotto teams wind up as well. There are four elite prospects in this draft, and to me it looks like two of them are great fits for us (Towns and Russell), one is questionable (Muiday), and one simply doesn't fit at all (Okafor). Therefore, while I love the concept of dealing #1 to pick up an extra asset 'cuz we don't need Okafor, I absolutely would not trade further back than #3; I'd sooner just draft Towns or Russell at #1 than risk losing both of them. To me, making a deal like, say, #1 for both of Philly's picks, assuming they're both lower than #4, is a horrible idea; with the talent atop this draft, I really think this is a case where getting a single $1 player is better than getting two 75ยข pieces. Now, if one of Philly's picks is still top three, meaning we get Towns / Russell plus one of the late-lotto SF prospects? Hell yes, we do that without even blinking! But in reality, that's a pipe dream; since I'm not willing to move back that far in this scenario, I'm not expecting to get too much back. Philly got a second rounder and their own 2017 first returned from ORL for moving back two spots last year (the Payton / Saric deal), so I think that's the kind of haul we could expect. Maybe #1 to MIN for #2 / 3 (no lower!) and Shabazz? Remember, it wasn't all that long ago that the whopping cost for POR to move up from #4 to #2 in order to draft Aldridge was Viktor Khryapa.

As an outsider (Wolves fan) you take Towns or Russell and go home happy. Oh yeah, Wiggins definitely isn't getting traded for anyone in this draft. Towns, Drummond is scary. Especially if Towns actually is still growing.
