They might not get the max from their team but I believe that's what it will take to steal them away from their original team and from other suitors.

yes that was what I was intending to convey, didn't make it clear on my end, would've added IF we threw MAX its not a gurantee SA or Chi would match

Am I the only one who thinks K Love isn't happy in Cleveland... He continuos to miss games, complains about being on perimeter & stats have plummeted... Do we pursue him with Randle in the mix...

If I am the Lakers, I offer Kawhi Leonard the Max contract, and try to make it as difficult to match as possible. Even though I expect the Spurs to match, you still make the offer. But if that fails, then yes, you have to bring in the best available Vet free agents you can to afford Kobe the best chance at making the playoffs. This is why I believe that if the Lakers say draft at 4 or 5, they will likely look to see if they can deal that pick for the best player who is available that is hopefully still young, but has the experience of performing in the league. As opposed to a draft pick who has yet to play a single game in the NBA.

these said players are FA's this year though, I don't see any available players up for trade that not only fit your description but also that will fit out need.

Let's pursue Kawhi. Bring him back to Cali! Spurn the Spurs! Yaaaaaassss!!!
On Harden being MVP of this season ( I don't even like Harden much)

Re: Should the FO go after middle tier free agents?
I'm hoping the FO would go after ANY tier talent, as long as there's a plan for how they fit financially as well as on the court. Tier doesn't matter. We need talent at all positions. But we don't need over the hill vets or journeymen. We need a core. But we also need complimentary pieces.
We are going to be offering a lot of max offers this off season... Some of them will make sense to us, some won't. But we're in a position to over pay a little right now... Especially if it gets us young talent and/or screws over a rival.

I agree even if u end up signing a Monroe and drafting a big, monroe signed at the number will be an assist once the cap goes up. Signing these players isn't jus a matter of getting talent but also asserts when the cap increases.

In terms of mid-tier FAs, I'd like to see us go for Wilson Chandler or Carroll. Either can contribute right away and would easily be an upgrade on Wes and Young, especially on the defensive end.

Bismack Biyombo would be a great signing. At 22 he's starting to round into that Ben Wallace form of 10-10 when he gets starter minutes with great shot-blocking. I'd rather sign Biyombo then use a high pick on Cauley-Stein. He and Randle would form a very good defensive front court.

Tobias Harris is basically a Melo 2.0 or Melo-lite so if you get him at a good price it could eventually be as if you got Melo in the last FA. Heard though about his desire to be a Knick (since he grew up a Knick fan) but there will be sort of a redundancy with Melo if he signs with us. Orlando will probably match though so he might be better off just taking the QO if he wants to leave the Magic at the soonest time.
