What? He's got the 8th most assists. He has 64 on the year. Mo Williams, LaVine, Rubio, Dieng, Thad Young (!), Wiggins, and Corey Brewer all have more, and three of those guys aren't even on the team anymore. Per game, Martin has the 6th most at 2.2 per game, which is pretty awful for a Guard with his Usage Rate (1st on the team at 26.5%).

Edit:

Martin's Assist% is 11th on the team (8th if you take away guys that are not currently on the team). The guy is flat out selfish when he has the ball.

Martin's mentality is that he's the alpha. That's why he takes the shots. I have Martin at 6th in assists at 2.0 per game, which isn't great and pretty much means nothing. Accidental assists happen in the NBA and if someone is saying Martin shares the ball, I have to laugh.

Lat season Love was taking over 18 shots a game while Martin was at 15. This season Martin is at 16.1 which leads the team. Wiggins is second at 13.4.

Martin is definitely a selfish player. I've seen too many contested shots early in the shot clock where he heaves it up basically the moment it touches his hands. I've also seen too many fast breaks where the Wolves have numbers and Martin keeps the ball in his own hands without making the pass for the higher percentage finish.

The best thing for Wiggins and this team would be for Kevin Martin to go yesterday. His selfish play doesn't help develop the future of the franchise.

LOL, he's the shooting guard, his job is to shoot.
He's also the best shooting guard we've ever had on this team.

His job is to play team basketball. There's more to the game of basketball than just shooting.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that Martin should be moved, but he should definitely be coming off the bench. It's too bad that Shabazz got hurt, because a rotation of: SG - Wiggins/Martin and SF - Shabazz/Wiggins, would be perfect. Our best option now would probably be: SG -LaVine/Martin and SF -Wiggins/Martin.

Martin would be great for a trade to a contender for a pick.

Martin would be so good off the bench, but I don't know if he would accept that role here.

Off the bench or starting, what's the difference if he plays similar minutes?

What happened to Wiggins 3 ball. He was amazing at the start of the year and now he can't hit one for his life and even refuses to take them. I think his recent decline is entirely due to him not making these anymore.

What? Really? Hes a tired rookie, hes 8th in the league in MPG right behind the likes of Harden,Cp3,Irving,DJ,Wall,Lillard ect Remember a college basketball season is only about 30 games, hes played all 68 games so far this season.

A lot of it is the plays we are running and KMart. Wiggins is playing off the ball a lot more since he came back, and it seems that Wiggins gets a vast majority of his touches from the post right now. Guessing Flip is trying to get him to learn to move off the ball more and keep improving his mid post and driving game.

Yeah?

If the issue is that Martin is selfish and negatively affects guys like Wiggins when he's playing with them, that won't change with him coming off the bench. He'll still be playing big minutes, let's assume, so he'll be matching up with either Wiggins, Bazz or maybe LaVine for stretches of the game.

If you cut him back to 20mpg I could see it being manageable and having some merit as instant offence, but honestly I'd be a little surprised if he'd accept that. For all his faults the guy can play.

Being open or calling "23" is different thing. Altogether. Nobody has anyhing against people shooting ball while they are open, but we've seen it a lot when <XY> calls his own number instead of passing the ball to an open teammate. Then there is the matter of shot difficulty.

So now your campaign to be a team-apologist and contrarian has extended from Rubio to Wiggins?

Just for the record going to reuse this quote once more, Wiggins is "the golden boy" of Minnesota, and we are not going to get another one anytime soon.

That's hyperbole, right? And it is fun watching Martin shoot with his stupid looking form.

Seriously though, I do wonder why Minnesota doesn't just force the ball to Wiggins and have him shoot 20 times a game. It's not like there's anything to gain from letting the veteran take a bunch of shots.
