I never said bigmen, i said scoring. i dont see a need to get scoring from a big. his scoring can easily be replaced. we may even be able to upgrade his defense and rebounding. It is not like he is some dominant 24/12 or even 20/10 player. I don't think it is really all that difficult to replace what he brings. And i think there are some benefits of going to a more athletic team and a mroe defense centric front court.
You actually have to do something with cap space. You don't get cool points for just having it. Unless we end up with either Horford, Love, Noah, Howard or Whiteside. Letting Lopez walk for nothing is beyond foolish and franchise altering.
I'd would be pretty suprised if we didnt use the cap space. i cant imagine us not being at or over the cap/tax after 16-17. Also it isnt just free agents, we can trade cap space for players already under contract. I'd also be pushing to trade lopez at next years deadline for whatever pick we could get.
Like I said, I have no problem letting go of him because I did want him gone at the deadline but I also don't see the point on giving up on him based on a delusional gamble that we will get someone much better.
i dont think it is a gable to think we can do at least just as well. I mean again, he isnt some 20/10 guy who has been a major part of winning teams here. no, thats not all on him, but he isnt good enough to carry you and im not sure its super unrealsitic to find bigs who can have a similar impact on winning that he does, and i think we could potentially do alot better.
To me the bigger gamble is NOT having the cap space for 2-3 max deals. because the only way we score major free agents is to have room for them to team up with their buddies.
I'd much rather gamble we can find a suitable big replacement for lopez and fail then to give away our best chance at top free agents, even if that is just a small 5-10% chance.
Lopez is still a Top 10 Center. Deron is not even a Top 20 PG. Joe is not even Top 15 SG/SF. That's what should be fixed first because finding anyone better under 30 and without health risks in 2016 is hard and risky.
is lopez not a health risk? is him being a top 10 center really worth anything? i mean center isnt really super valued these days, and it isnt like he has the impact the top bigs have. I'd rather get a PG and wings that are top 10 at their position and then just getting a defensive role playing center then to invest in an offensive center who has already kind of shown he cant be a dominant 22-26 ppg scorer who can carry you.
