Probably so.

Then again, Dez Wells isnt turning it over 20 times against Kentucky.

Styles make a fight. It's all about the matchups. Maryland was tight as a drum against Huggy Bear's Mountaineers. Not Trimble. He has Sam Cassell giant sized huervos. Sp?

They would have made Kentucky sweat.

Oh well.....nice season. I am happy about the basketball program.

If Trimble doesn't go pro, I EXPECT Diamond Stone will pick the Terps.

I want Wisconsin to go all the way to the Final. Then for Dekkar and the other F to both join Big Frank Kaminsky and declare for the draft.

Maryland will have one hell of a team next season if they get Diamond S

I don't think Stone will pick UMD.

He's from Wisconsin... and maybe he wants to put on for his state.

Though I agree playing with Melo would be a great look for him. They'd be a tournament lock and would advance past the first weekend in 2016.

Good season. Definitely overachieved. I had WVU beating UMD in the 2nd round anyway so I'm not surprised.

Melo needs to return to school and he should. Ditto Leyman. Should have a shot at winning the B10 next year.

Next season's roster as it looks "right now".

My projected starting lineup:

PG:Melo Trimble (Nothing needs to be said. Stud)

SG:Dion Wiley (Talented but was a little rawer than expected coming out of HS. I have him as a starter mainly because he's a better defender than Jared Nickens)

C: Michal Cekovsky (Very good athlete. Just needs to gain some strength)

SF:Jake Layman (Very talented but too passive at times. If you noticed Layman was a completely different player while Wells was out with his injury. He was aggressive taking it to the hole, posting up etc. I think you'll see that guy next season

PF: Robert Carter Jr. (Transfer from GT who had to sit out this season. There are some reports saying he's the best player on the team. Period. Former 5* who can play inside and out.

My projected bench:

PG: Jaylen Brantley (The 1# Juco PG. Has 3 years of eligibility. The plan is for Trimble to play alot of 2 guard next season alongside Brantley)

SG: Jared Nickens (3pt sniper who has to work on his defense.)

C: Damonte Dodd (Very athletic but was extremely raw coming out of HS/Prep School. He needs to become a better rebounder. There's no reason he shouldn't be a good one with his body/athleticism.

SF: We actually don't really have one. Yet. We have a few targets that we're still after. I suspect Nickens will see some time there as well.

PF: See above.

Now for the potential program changer:

The Terps are in the running for the #1 center in the country, Diamond Stone.

It seems to be a Wisconsin-Maryland battle.

Stone is a Wisconsin native and was considered to be a Badger lean for awhile but the recent rumors have him leaning towards Maryland.

Supposedly is Stone is excited about the possibility of playing with Trimble and Carter.

And he should be

Oh....hater post IMO.

But you are entitled to your opinion.

28-7 is a damned good season!!!

Def. not a hater, I generally will root for any "home" team. I haven't watched college ball much at all for the past 1.3 years cause of school (truthfully I only really follow UVA, Gtown and UCONN). So while I "hear" about how good MD is this season, and then I saw THAT game yesterday, I was a bit taken back by the team's, what seemed to me, inadequacies against a team that should have been beatable for them.

Stick to the NBA and your Randy hatred. They are just getting physically mauled. Turge did a terrific job with this team this year. He had one point guard and he is hurt. Give me a f-ing break.

No offense, nuposse04, but I do agree with 80sballboy on the job Turgeon did.

Some of his young men seem like they need more faith in themselves. A little nasty would help Layman. Dez Wells was mad about the officiating and he kept trying TOO hard.

Maryland needed a goon this game.

After the moving screen on Trimble, if I was a coach I would have gone John Cheney and had my goon put a really hard foul on Staten.

Props to Bob Huggins. His kids were straight gangster out there. :)

Turgeon may have, I don't know HOW bad they were the season before. But I expect a ranked team to show better in the round of 32 then they did. I also am a bit disappointed that WVU won, because I am a Huggins hater, but I give props to the man for destroying Turgeons squad last night (even the score wasn't a slaughter it was just painful to watch).

Saying all of this, I also realize I have to question my fanhood of Tony Bennett down at UVA as well. He's failed against lesser competition two years in a row. I'm beginning to get Marty Schottenheimer vibes from his program.

Old ACC Rival Awaits Maryland Women in Sweet 16

Maryland women's basketball handled business on Monday night in College Park, handing eight-seeded Princeton (31-1) its first loss of the season in a 85-70 win. Senior guard Laurin Mincy led the way with 27 points, seven assists and four rebounds on nine of 11 shooting and helped spark a 17-2 second half run to pull away.

Up next is a trip out west on Saturday to Spokane to face an old ACC rival: the Duke Blue Devils.

The top-seeded Terps will take on the fourth-seeded Blue Devils with a spot in the Elite Eight on the line.

Maryland has made the Elite Eight three of the past four seasons.

Huggins' Daughters Spew Tasteless Insults at Dez Wells

Following West Virginia’s win over Maryland, Jenna Huggins, the daughter of Mountaineers coach Bob Huggins and an assistant to the team, took to twitter to personally attack Maryland senior Dez Wells, who was already in tears after playing in his final college basketball game.

Her attacks were focused on sexual assault accusations Wells was faced with, and expelled for, in 2012 while at Xavier -- charges that ended up being dropped and an expulsion that won Wells a settlement against the school last year.

Jenna Huggins made her twitter profile private shortly after she tweeted the tasteless remarks, but you can view a screenshot of her tweets below.

UPDATE: Huggins' other daughter, Jacqueline, also made inappropriate comments towards Wells.

EDITED

LOVE WELLS' RESPONSE!

Trio of Young Terps Offensive Linemen Ready to Make An Impact

The 2014-15 season was a learning experience for three of Maryland’s most talented young offensive linemen. Damian Prince, Derwin Gray and Brendan Moore each redshirted in their freshmen year watching the Terps' offensive line struggle while making the transition to the Big Ten from the sidelines.

“Last year was definitely a blessing,” Prince said, a five-star recruit from Bishop McNamara (Md.) in the 2014 recruiting class. “It was the first year in the Big Ten. Even though I didn’t get a chance to play, I was still part of a historical thing. It was exciting. It was just good to be able to see and know what I’m looking forward to [this] season when hopefully I get a chance to get on the field.”

The three redshirt freshmen sat behind an unheralded offensive line, which started five players lacking near the reputation that Prince or Gray -- or even Moore, a high three-star -- had coming out of high school. A lack of injuries to the unit prevented a disastrous year for the group, allowing the line to develop some cohesiveness, but the talent gap between it and other Big Ten lines was often too wide for them to consistently win individual matchups.

It’s why rebuilding the offensive line has been the biggest focus for Randy Edsall during the last two recruiting cycles.

“It’s a lineman league,” Edsall said in February after talking about the 2015 recruiting class, which features four offensive linemen, including two four-star recruits in locals Quarvez Boulware and E.J. Donahue, all of whom ate set to begin practicing with the team in the fall.

And he took a beating in a regular season game as well - so this is nothing to take lightly. If MD had beaten WV, I doubt Trimble would be cleared to play against Kentucky. And playing KY with no Trimble would not have been fun to watch.

Source: Trimble Planning Return to Maryland

Freshman point guard Melo Trimble plans to return to Maryland for his sophomore year, a source close to Trimble decision told InsideMDSports.

Trimble, who averaged a team-high 16.2 points along with 3.9 rebounds and three assists while leading Maryland to its first NCAA Tournament berth in five years, would only consider leaving if an NBA franchise were to guarantee it would use a first-round pick on him. That seems unlikely -- per sources, NBA feedback has him as a non-guaranteed pick somewhere in between the late first round and mid-second round -- and still wouldn't necessarily convince him to declare unless it appeared a perfect situation for a young point guard to be nurtured.

Trimble, a first-team all-Big Ten selection by conference media, also would be joining a deep pool for point guard prospects; Emmanuel Mudiay (China), Jerian Grant (Notre Dame), Kris Dunn (Providence), Tyus Jones (Duke), George Lucas (Brazil), Delon Wright (Utah), Cameron Payne (Murray State) and Terry Rozier (Louisville) are viewed as potential first-rounders.

Additionally, Wright, Grant and Rozier each will have at least one more chance to impress scouts in the NCAA Tournament, while Trimble's year was completed Sunday when he suffered a concussion in the second-half of Maryland's season-ending 69-69 loss to West Virginia. Scouting Website Draft Express rates Trimble the 22nd-best freshman NBA prospect and projects him as the No. 32 pick in 2016, although such projections are always subject to wild fluctuation.

In Loss, Brantley Saw Terps' Need for Him

Maryland freshman point guard Melo Trimble had survived blows all season long, but finally, in the Terps final game of the season, he went down for the count.

Trimble took not one, but two shots that forced him out of the game Sunday night against West Virginia, and the second hit -- an accidental knee to the head from teammate Damonte Dodd -- forced him to sit out for good. He was consoled on the bench by his coaches, teammates and his mother, Kim Trimble, and it was later revealed he'd suffered a concussion.

With its only point guard watching from the sidelines and fighting back tears, Maryland’s chances to beat West Virginia’s ultra-aggressive pressure defense vanished. The Terps collapsed in the final eight minutes without Trimble, as Turgeon was forced to use former walk-on Varun Ram, wing man Dez Wells and an assortment of role players to try to advance the ball into halfcourt.

Turgeon had no one to whom he could turn behind Trimble for ballhandling, and so the game spiraled out of control. The possible solution to Maryland's point guard problem, meanwhile, was watching the game at Hooters in a small city in Texas. Junior college point guard Jaylen Brantley itched to get on the court while watching on TV in Odessa, Tex.

“It was pretty tough. Two ball handlers in the game at the same time is definitely a benefit,” said Brantley, who will enroll at Maryland in June as a sophomore. “It would have definitely been different. I’m not going to say we would have won the game because of me, but it would have been a different outcome probably if I was with them.”

Maryland survived and thrived all season relying solely on Trimble and won a program-record 26 regular-season games. Its season-ending loss marked the longest amount of time Maryland went without its point guard, who averaged nearly 34 minutes a game and led the team in both scoring and assists. But Turgeon doesn’t want to go into next year in a similar situation, and that’s where Brantley, a four-star recruit who committed in October, comes in.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.
