People tend to measure draft strength based on how many potential superstars declared. And with Bennett going 1st , that´s a big flaw for the whole draft because his selection is mostly the first that comes to mind. But I agree with you , I really like this draft and I´m happy for Schröder that he learned to fit in the hawks rotation.

It seems like the scouting really failed in this draft, look how the best players are back in the draft and guys like you mentioned on top.
Yeah i like draft as well.

I'd have taken Mason Plumlee ahead of Dieng so I guess I vote for him

I went Shabazz this time. Plumlee is close too but I think he's older.

yeah like Dieng he was an older rookie.

I tend not to put as much weight into that. No reason he can't play for a decade or more anyway and its not like any of the younger guys left here look to have some great reservoir of untapped potential.

True, I generally think older guys hit their ceiling fast though, so I give a slight edge.

Sell me on his upside then?

I'm just not seeing it. His one defining skill is supposed to be scoring(shooting) and he's so/so at that. Doesn't defend, doesn't rebound, isn't a playmaker. I mean right now his ceiling sorta seems like Gerald Green.

But maybe I undersell him?

Still pretty surprised anyone would rather have Dieng than Bazz.

Just turned 22. Decent size. Shooting 54.8% TS and 35.6% 3 point shooting, both massive jumps from last year. And a 42 inch vertical (2nd best among 1st round sg's in dx's database -- http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre-dra ... ll&sort=12 ).

So, you have the raw athletic tools, and the shooting potential, and he is still young. If he can become a defender, you have a very interesting player, suggesting the untapped potential. Now, whether that potential ever gets tapped is another story, and he wasn't robbed by not going first 7-8 by any means, and might not even deserve 10th.

I'm thinking this was about Shabazz?

He's 2 years younger than Dieng or Plumlee, he's at a position with little NBA depth and putting up decent scoring numbers at solid efficiency on a team with very little around him. Smaller sample size this season, but still:

It is settled.
Shabazz 10 votes, KCP and McLemore 7 each.

Good thread, HW. Something a little different, and for the most part it inspired some interesting debate!

Yeah i like draft as well.

I don't think the draft is strong. It just isn't historically weak like people were making it out to be. Also a lot of the people who are looking like studs came out of nowhere like Giannis and Gobert.

I think that the 2014 is going to be so much stronger than the 2013 was at this time next year.

Wiggins
Embiid
Jabari
Elfrid
Smart
Exum
Randle
Gordon
Nurkic
Jerami Grant (Homer Pick don't freakout)

And maybe Vonleh, Lavine, McGary and others that I'm missing (I didn't forget Lavine I think he's garbage)

Will be all equal to or greater than the Schroeder, Dieng, Shabazz tier we voted on.

I absolutely agree with you, 2014 will be miles better but we knew that before. I was just pointing out that people spoke of the draft in 2013 as the weakest ever since there were no clear franchise player to pick but that a draft can also be considered good if you find valuable players in later spots.
