Should put qualifying offer in there as an option and remove the sub 5 mill options. They're just dumb.

I also think any offer that isn't totally excessive will be matched. Heck, we would probably match a max offer too. The max this offseason doesn't mean as much of a cap hit as it normally would given the crazy things that are going to happen to salaries over the next couple of years.

Will this make it harder for a team to do a poison pill contract? As it won't be as big a hit if a team back-loads a contract. Or could they simply back-load it even more in the 3rd or 4th year?

He's going to get 12 or more from us.

With the rising cap, let's hope he takes it instead of going the QO way to cash out for 2016.

Let's put it this way.... Is there any offer the pistons wouldn't match? I'd say no. All signs point to RJ really liking it here and doing everything he can to be a team leader and cornerstone. His play has been fantastic recently and his attitude has been perfect from day 1. I don't see any circumstance where he is going to try to force his way out and/or not lock in a big contract. He's going to sign a big deal with the pistons and I'm guessing it will be 12+

What would his max be? Anyone know?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Hayward got $63 million over 4 years last offseason but Jackson's max would be more though because the cap is likely to go up a bit. The same goes for Monroe too for what it's worth.

Taking you up on the "change your vote" offer, I don't think there's any way he accepts less than $12M per year anymore. In fact, I'll make a new prediction to hopefully stir up some debate — he signs for 3 years, $39M ($13M per), with an opt out after two seasons. Everyone's focusing on FA's signing one-year deals this summer to cash in again on the 2016 cap hike, but the cap could go even higher in 2017 (all the way to $105M). So if you're a player like Jackson, who's signing his first non-rookie deal and has essentially finally found a home (i.e. a coach and team who believe in him and want him long term), why not lock in two years of guaranteed money and then renegotiate based on an even higher salary cap? To me, that seems like the best balance betweens "birds in hand" and "birds in bush."
