Also met the producer of NFL AM, Adam Watson, and the biggest hockey agent in the world, Pat Brisson. So much power in one room, lol.
That's pretty interesting, how were you able to swing that?
So when is this plane going down? I'll ride it til' it hits the ground!

Anybody here watch "The Jinx"? It's a mini-series/documentary about Robert Durst and the powerful Durst family of NYC. Durst has apparently killed 3-5 people and has gotten away with them all. He's on trial again for one of his old murders but I read articles on it and it's possible that he actually might get off again. Too many crazy people in this world and the entire family is very interesting/kinda crazy too.

Re: PC Board OT thread
Not sure how this would be possible (I know it is, i am just a tech noob), but how would one 'talk' basketball?
Obviously, i love posting on RealGM, but wouldn't mind just shooting the **** with some dudes hear on a range of NBA topics from time to time.
In Australia, it's hard to talk NBA hoops with people. Not many people follow it. It's not a regular sport for people to follow and discuss at work, with friends etc. That, and if they do, more so are casual fans and don't know much
.
Do we have anything like this on RealGM running?

You mean that you would like to talk about basketball with some of the RealGM members by microphone? Those interested in it, could use Skype, which allows group calls, up to 25 people

Have you tried organizing a RealGM Australia meet-up or something during the playoffs?

Re: PC Board OT thread
Not sure really where to post this, so I'll stick it here I guess.
Recently went over and cleaned out my parent's attic for them and found a bunch of old VHS tapes of Mavs games I taped as a kid. So naturally I borrowed their VCR and have watched a couple of them. Got me thinking about some dying breeds of basketball players:
1. The post up SF(or SG)
2. The true pass-first PG
3. The bruising PF with limited range
Anybody think any of those players could be successful today? I'm not talking about outlier talents or anything. Just think of guys like Avery Johnson or Dale Davis.

I'd think a post up wing would be, and to a lesser extent a pass first PG. The limited big is a dying breed though.

The post up wing is returning in my opinion. Jimmy Butler and Klay Thompson are two of the brightest young SGs in the league, and they have effective post games. I think we might see wings featured as post weapons soon. It's logical. The average small is normally better than the average big man in the post because of superior handles and better passing. It's likely a less turnover prone option. Have the bigs spread the floor by taking the defensive big men out of the lane.
True pass first point guards aren't dying, but the way developmental is set up now, scoring point guards with either elite athletic ability or sweet jump shots are being cultivated at a super fast rate. I think there will always be a place for Calderon, Prigioni, etc. next to superstar wings and bigs.
Bruising PFs with limited range are now bruising centers with limited range. Dale Davis would be a badass C today.

i think that you can call Chris Paul a "true, set-up point guard". He's really more of an all-around PG, and he was a 20+ PPG scorer in the past (still could easily average 20+ if he decided to do it), but compared to guys like Westbrook, Kyrie, Lillard or even Curry, he's about as pure of a point guard as you can get, today, because of his floor general abilities and pass-first mentality.

Yeah, something like that. Casual, fun, talking nonsense.

We've done a few with the off topic Australia crowd, and will probably have another one in June (hopefully).
I was thinking of doing a draft thing with Bulls fans if their were enough.

Hmm. While the topic is here, anyone live near Philly? Just moved back to PA a few months ago, wanna catch OKC in Philly next year, and Sixers tickets are dirt cheap. A RealGM meet up would be kinda cool.

If you could find enough interest a RealGM IRC channel would fit what you're looking for, if you're okay with real time text chat instead of voice.
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

I actually have the opposite problem. If I ever meet someone new who happens to be a bball fan, I eventually have to stop myself and change the subject. I could pretty much go all day and wouldn’t think anything of it

This would be me if I ran into people, talking way too much and having to change the subject (assuming that is what you mean?).
I suppose that's why I have 70k posts on here. I spurt out all my crap here instead.

lol yup that's exactly what i meant. only a few of my friends rival my obsession (yeah, let's be honest...) with the game, so realgm is certainly a good outlet for it.

I actually think the move away from pass-first point guards is an accident that to the extent it exists, it won't hold up. I think what we saw at the trade deadline with Knight getting traded after some championed him as an all-star is telling: Knight didn't get all that offensive primacy because the team made a choice to design an offense around score-first point guards, it's just that if you let a guy like that be your point guard, he's going to end up with primacy through sheer inadequacy in involving his teammates.
It's true that in all non-primary scorers, scoring is in essence more important than it used to be because of the 3, but the rise of the 3 is based on the realization that it's incredibly easy to find guys who can hit an open 3 outside of big men, and point guards are certainly not the exception to that rule. And meanwhile we've got Rondos and Rubios in the league right now: Guys who frankly have considerably worse shooting talent than many of the people in this thread, yet they can still survive the NBA.
On the "bruising PF", I was thinking lately about this, and the 76ers saying something to effect that Joel would be their offensive PF while Noel would be their defensive PF. What he meant was that one would take offensive primacy while the other would take defensive, but PF has become so dominant over center that he just used the position titles as if that were of absolute meaning, when in reality the PF used to be the secondary interior player on both offense and defense for a long time and seemed to take the lead in being the equivalent of a hockey enforcer.
I think about all this, and while I think current trends are not set in stone, for the life of me, I can't think of a good reason for the old bruising PF as the standard for the position. I get why someone could succeed like that, but it really feels more like an afterthought than a strategy. As such, I'd agree, I don't think there's much of a future in it.
Re: post up wing. I think with post ups in general, in this age where you don't get much time to make your move on the interior, if you're really going to be a big time post up guy, it probably means that you have to be an unreal passer. And if you're good enough to do both lots of post up scoring and great passing, well, you're an outlier talent. We'll see more of this, but not very often.
