I was more than a little surprised at how much better Showy was than Jackson. I wish there was some way to knock the rust off Jackson. He wasn't even confident in his handle.

And OMFG at UK. That team is insane. I guess pressing them was a bad idea.

Having two of the top 5 players ever going right now is potent. What do you think?

I may be recency biased, but I think I take Leuer (or start Tucker) over Jones. I'd probably also go with Trent Jackson over Dekker and slide Finley to the 3 spot.

Showy doesn't play the same position as Jackson, not sure the two are directly comparable given their respective roles.

Danny Jones was awesome but I do think Leuer lands second and Vershaw as third.

Trent wasn't the player Dekker is and certainly not Mike Finley.

Showy is an incredibly dumb nickname and I think people should stop using it. It's his name cut off with a y added to the end. That's super cheesy. They could at least call him Showtime or something like this. I'll just call him Zak most of the time if I'm looking for an abbreviation.

Anyways, onto more important matters. While it may have been a bad idea to press Kentucky, it might be a good idea to press Arizona. They aren't the most athletic, good ball-handling team. They just shouldn't be able to get away with starting a thick 6'8" guy at shooting guard. But he and they, with their overall size and decent skill, are tough to match up with in the halfcourt. UW now can employ 4 small guards and I think ideally they should use them to selectively trap McConnell, and hopefully force desperate passes out for steals or to suspect ball-handlers, which ultimately could take Johnson or Hollis-Jefferson out of the game. But I expect Bo just does what he does, which is play a halfcourt game, and take the consequences, bad or good.

I think it was funny that anybody thought they could beat Kentucky by speeding them up, by trying to out-athlete them. They didn't even give themselves a chance for Kentucky to have a random terrible shooting night or something.

I thought of that, but wasn't aware Zak Morris' band on Saved by the Bell was the tie-in. That makes it even better. You could come up with a plethora of nicknames better than "Showy".

If I had to gameplan for UK I'd just dare the Harrisons to beat me. They are mental midgets who want to chuck shots so I'd basically just play rondo defense on them where you sag off hard and blanket everyone else, hopefully they shoot UK out of the game. Ideally you could run off of long J misses. Unfortunately calipari realizes this potential and has Ulis available so there is no guarantee it works at all. But it's a far better decision than trying to get into an up and down game with them.

Good notes imo. Will ponder for next draft of Zak Showalter's nickname.

HurricaneKid wrote:Well 'Do is WAY above Dekk. He was 1st team All-American. Dekk was great last night but lets be reasonable here.

Someone needs to give Gasser his due. He was great. Both defensively AND stepping up to hit the biggest shot of the game. If he can bottle up McConnell it would be enormous. Dude is just such a great glue piece.

I was NOT impressed with Arizona last night until the last 6 minutes. They should have been down 10 going into that last 6. If Hollis-Jefferson doesn't get right by Sat I think Bucky has a clear advantage.

Tucker had a better collegiate career, but Dekker's pro potential is higher. Tucker didn't last long in the NBA. Dekker is an athletic 6'9 player who can probably play sf and pf. He has to improve his outside shot, but with some help from shooting experts, his ability to hit the three ball will make him even more valuable.

Somebody went to the Ron Roenecke school of nicknaming players.

I've made that comparison before too and expressed my principal problem with it back when Roenicke did it. Half of his players he just added a y at the end and it supposedly constituted a nickname, i.e.: Bushy, Brauny, etc. I'm not sure what purpose it even serves. Doesn't shorten the name nor is descriptive.

The players call him Showy, or Showie. So, that's what I'm going to continue using.
