Tobias or Monroe? Who is next years starting PF?

Post#1 » by vic » Fri Mar 27, 2015 4:03 pm

Realistically with the commitment to Reggie Jackson, I think Monroe can see its going to be a hard fit because Jackson doesn't shoot threes as proficiently is Brandon Jennings. Brandon Jennings is injured.

SVG wants a Bigger Pg that can be a better defender on the ball because he doesn't want his PG to get torched or taken out of the game offensively from opposing teams switching a bigger defender onto him. Jackson doesn't defend extremely well, but he has the tools to at least get better at it.

So unless Jackson decides to get real aggressive from three-point land, we're probably going to end up with the new power forward on the pistons. Who's it going to be?

Monroe wants to get paid, so he may end up in New York or LA as a foundation piece. Whoever pairs him with towns or Cauley is going to be a problem for the next 10 years. Or he can go work with Anthony Davis in his hometown and get three championships. Or he can go continue the Spurs dynasty.

Millsap would be a good stopgap, but the only way I see that happening is if Atlanta implodes in the playoffs.

Green just wants to use us to set his market value so he can go back to Golden State a very rich man. They are too young and too good for him to realistically want to leave that situation.

Towns is a lucky day. The other rookies won't be ready to start for 2 years. If SVG found a way to trade for a second draft pick one of the rookies would be nice. Ed Davis is a small center from what I know.

I think Harris is the perfect fit. He wants to get paid, he wants a big role. He scores in the post and he hits the three. He would replace Munroes defensive rebounding to a certain extent. He doesn't project as elite defender but he's talented offensively and better on offense then green. He wants to play in New York with Carmelo but I think Phil Jackson needs a big to pair with Carmelo more than he needs a Carmelo clone.

I say give Tobias whatever max money Monroe refuses, sign at Davis as a back up defensive big PF/C.

Cast your vote... Give your reasons if you will... you can pick 2 and you can change your vote anytime.
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.

Tobias is restricted and is already pretty much committed to NY. I think we will try hard for Draymond and try to call the Warriors bluff. If they match I expect to see a band aid type of signing like a Bass or something until we can find a good player. Either way we could get away with starting Tolliver or something seeing as Drummond can basically own the paint by himself anyways. He's like having two bodies down there.

I could see Louis Scola getting a look too, right?

Got to wait and see where we end up with the lottery balls though, that will help determine options and then when the draft actually happens we'll learn a lot :).
Something like Drummond/Harris/Johnson/KCP/Jackson does a lot for me, Id really like that starting 5 next year.

I added Bass to the vote... He's basically Harris lite. Maybe SvG goes for both.

If Jackson gives up 14m per year to get a Carmelo clone... It might be a genius move or it could be pretty dumb. Depends on the draft pick and their offensive system. Melo/Tobias/Okafor would be a horrible defensive frontline. They would have to go with towns or Collie Stein. That would become one less taker for Monroe tho.

I think it's safe to say between NY and LA whoever takes Okafor doesn't want Monroe. Monroe could fit in LA with Towns but that pushes out Jordan Hill/Juilius Randle. If LA goes with mudiay then Randall/Munroe could work. Cauley/Munroe could work for LA too.

The draft is really gonna determine a lot. Then on the first day of free agency I think Phil Jackson is really going to be the biggest domino. We won't be waiting on the Lebron we'll be waiting on Phil.

It's going to be interesting to see who actually wants Monroe. If neither LA or New York want Monroe because of the superstar centers available in the draft, he may be stuck choosing between Detroit, the spurs, and New Orleans. We may be able to squeeze a draft pick out of San Antonio or the Pelicans depending on how bad they want him. Or he could actually just stay with Detroit which would be a surprise at this point.

Another interesting idea that I was discussing with GS fans on the T and T board is us getting Barnes and Lee. GS is literally in capspace hell especially after paying Draymond. They will definitely look to dump David Lee and we could absorb that contract and he would fill a need. But they will have to give us Barnes as a consilation prize for taking him. They probably won't be paying Barnes money either after next season anyways. Then just draft a SF or PF in the draft.

Jackson/Dinwiddie
KCP/Meeks
Barnes/Winslow or Hezonja
Lee/Tolliver
Drummond/Anthony

Not bad at all

I like Tobias harris a lot but he is a bit injury prone and not the best defensively but would still be a good pickup.

I'm still hoping for Monroe even though i know he's gone.
Harris has said he'd like to play in NY and Orlando aren't just going to let him walk, so i think Detroit isn't in the running IMO.
Milsap would be great, but he's not leaving Atlanta.
Green is going to be matched by GSW.
I don't know enough about the draft picks and the others are very meh.
Tolliver should be kept, but not as a starter.

I like Tobias playing the 4 spot since he's a turnstile when defending SFs.

Him as a stretch 4 with one of Tolliver or Quincy coming off the bench would be a decent frontcourt rotation. Still need to upgrade the backup C position though, if Joel plays more than 15mins+, we're not going to be competitive with how Dre gets into a random funk and or foul troubles. Ed Davis would be great, but he probably wants to start or demand a premium for the DET tax.

Frankly, if Draymond is listed despite his RFA status, why not just go ahead and add an opted-out Kevin Love to the poll? 'Cuz seriously, there is the exact same, equal chance that Love opts out of CLE and chooses us in free agency as there is the Warriors not matching any offer to Draymond.

Amir would be good but he's found such a home in Toronto... will he leave? Is he restricted or unrestricted?

All I'll say on this subject is that I'm going to trust SVG to make changes that improve the team's chemistry. Too many variables to talk one name over another. What's our draft position, did we have any luck in the lottery? Could change the whole dynamic of who we might select and who we might chase as FAs? I don't belong to the group that believes that GM must go, but at the same time think he's likely gone. I've said it before, but I have no faith in my ability to predict the future.

Went with Milsap...I think Monroe is gone, and if Harris doesn't end up in Orlando by the end of next off season he'll probably be in New York.

I'm the opposite looks better in the post as a PF than on the perimeter as a SF I would definitely target him if I was SVG.
