I wouldn't be surprised if it was a grades issue. I've heard rumblings that UW wouldn't let him enroll because his ACT score was too low. Who the heck knows. This just sucks.

I get a top WI recruit choosing North Carolina or Duke over Wisconsin, but Maryland?

This really **** hurts, especially because we are stuck having no one to play C next year. Vitto Brown? Ethan Happ? ****

I know it's out of fashion to levy any sort of criticism at the program's recruiting but there have been three McDonald's All-Americans in the state the past two years and none of them are playing at WI. I realize there are a ton of mitigating factors but that's a pretty significant blow given all the success we've had recently.

Wow, all the insiders were WAY off on this. That's a huge blow for sure. Now who knows where they even go with that scholarship. Banking isn't an option, especially with Dekker a likely declaration.

I follow recruiting but never really wet the bed over it. Thought this was finally one they had a chance with but this is why I will never expect a big time recruit to pick WI. Oh well.

Who the hell plays center next year? I know they have high hopes for Happ but he's not that big. Nobody over 6'8"?

Somewhat off-topic

Do you think Wisconsin will ever lower their academic standards? Seems like they might be able to get more recruits like the other schools if they lowered it a bit like everyone else. There's obviously an issue with graduation rates as well. Think I read we were close to dead last among all schools in the tournament this year in players (not sure if just black players) graduating.

The graduation rates was a bit of an odd case. If you looked at the numbers, it was guys starting school from like 2005-2008 and they had 6 years to finish. The newer data isn't in but most of the guys have graduated. It was a small pocket of guys who went to play overseas or a small group that didn't graduate.

I'm not sure it was an ACT issue. I'd imagine they'd have gotten him in. UW may have slightly higher standards in football and basketball but they seem to make special cases like this work. Who knows, though.

UNC had six (?) McDonald's All-Americans on their roster yesterday. They're not playing tomorrow.

I get the gist of your point - losing out on Ellenson and Stone and Looney (not to mention Tokoto and Paige) are big losses. But they're not and never have been destructive. The recruiting class, even without Stone, is still very good next season.

I just find it incredible that we somehow have managed to not have a center for next season.

stunned. i would be shocked if this wasn't some behind the scenes issue like grades, or the UA thing.

choosing maryland over WI when you're from Milwaukee, the Badgers are about to go back to back final 4, and you will come right in and start is just a bizarre choice.

Return to Milwaukee Bucks
