Slava wrote:Sounds good and I kind of remember you telling me that staying in Pittsburgh is important for you. Personally I wouldn't be worried about it as long as you are getting interview calls because it tells you that your skillset is in demand and will stay so for a good period of time.

If I'm not wrong, I recall you are on the research side of Biomed engineering. Usually research teams tend to have far less bureaucracy than traditional engineering teams even at big companies so try to keep an open mind. At worst you'll be visiting a new facility and see how things are set up so don't be rejecting interviews completely.

yeah my background is R&D but I don't want to be there forever (or if I do, now is the time to find out so I can go snag my PhD). considering i'm 1-2 years out of undergrad, my research background is pretty strong. I'm looking to transition into more traditional product development.

1. research & development
2. product development
3. quality engineering

try them out young, ideally get experience across all 3 to set myself up better for managing and moving on from there. #2/3 blend together and #1/#2 blend together, but #1/#3 really don't meet much simply because the FDA doesn't give many **** about your research programs. medical products are highly regulated field, the only comparative regulated industry seems to be under the FAA, I'd like to think nuclear is as well, but idk.

in regards to the vg discussion; ive read all my life, i have a pretty great social life, comfortable job, yet on my deathbed i would still fondly recall Ocarina of time, skyrim, chrono trigger. Video games can have the same emotional depth or resonance that other more well-to-do mediums have.

I'll ask you when you are your deathbed if you remember.

wait are you actually condemning adults from playing video games? do you feel similarly about tv and movies?

what if i read all the time instead would you say "put down the books and get out there and do something dang it"

if you define happiness in your life by getting outside, traveling, doing things then that is fine and i have no problem with it, but not everyone defines happiness that way so it doesn't make sense to put everyone in the same box

Just think of it this way, when you are old, will you remember the people and the experiences you had or the games you played?

youve said this before and i still have no idea what playing games has to do with experiences you have with people. yeah if ur addicted to WoW and never leave your house that is a problem, but playing video games doesnt mean you are sacrificing anything in your life other than a different hobby. youre just way off with this thinking imo, nothing wrong with playing video games.

speaking of books ive started reading before i fall asleep again, just started As I Lay Dying.
