What Countries will Medal in Mens Basketball in Brazil?

I think USA will win Gold. Spain will win Sliver. After those two teams there is a huge drop off in skill.

France with Batum,Gobert , Fournier Noah and possibly Parker and Diaw ?
They are not at all less talented than Spain.
Brazil's best players will be old, but im sure they are going to give all they have in those couple of weeks because they are the host so they will be there fighting for the top.
Greece and Lithuania might end up to be tough nuts to crack.

I will make an outsiders shot and say Canada can be a dark horse if they make it. Everyone else can highlight USA, France and Spain, those are the obvious choices, The raw Canadian talent is there : Cory Joseph, Pangos, Wiggins, Stauskas, Heslip, Bennett, Nicholson, Olynyk, Thompson etc. Very promising.

Serbia can go for medal.

Teodosic (PG) as maybe European best pg.
Nedovic (PG/SG) if he get serious and stop joking or Miljenovic but we will see does he can play in big clubs (this year in ABA league 13.3ppg,4.6rpg,8.4apg,46%fg)
Stefan Markovic (PG)as defensive specialist
Bogdan Bogdanovic (SG)- nothing to say , you will se him :)
Dragan Milosavljevic (SG)- top5 defensive players in europe at this moment (i exclude usa players)
V.Lucic and N.Kalinic (both SF)
Nemanja Bjelica (PF) - he is going to NBA this summer , best PF in Euroleague now.
Zoran Erceg (PF) he has breakout year , killer from beyond the arc
Milan Macvan (PF,but can play at the C in the smaller lineup) He would play in NBA if he is 3-4cm higher
Boban Marjanovic (C) - WOW! Look his stats in Euroleague. MVP this year , he knock down all Euroleague records.
Miroslav Raduljica (C)

Meh....I don't see it. You did go to the finals last year, but I don't know if you have what it takes to go to the end again.
You surprised everyone with the basketball you played - I really enjoyed watching Serbia play, but this time the other teams will be ready for you. There isn't any world class in here. Bunch of great Euroleague players and bunch of average ones that are well coached and play great as a team. I don't think that this time you could do what you did last year.
Your rooster doesn't seem like much compared to what some other countries have .

Noah has only played once for France and he is not playing the Olympics. And of course France is less talented than Spain, even Parker has told that. They had a great generation, unluckily they found that Gasol guy in their path to success, in his own words.

The Gasol brothers, Ibaka or Mirotic, Navarro, Rudy, Sergio Rodríguez, Rubio, Calderón, Llull, Reyes,..., if they are focused, no team but the USA can even have a chance to beat them.

It depends on chemistry a lot. Spain lost against weaker France at the World Cup and it was in Spain....

I can put United States as gold, and for the silver and bronze, one can easily write down Spain France, Brazil, Serbia, Greece, Turkey, Crotia. It all depends the players and the chemistry of the teams. Even a long run at the NBA may have effect on the players and their teams.

Spain was over-confident in that lose against France because they beat them in the pool play by 24 points. Plus Marc Gasol had a baby and he traveled to meet her the day before the game so do Pau. Ricky Rubio was in a NBA game commercial shooting,... Like I said, they didn't treat France with the respect they deserved.

Anyway, we should wait to see what teams qualify. It is going to be tough in Europe, only the top 2 in the Eurobasket will go to the Olympics and if you finish 3rd-6th you´ll go to the Preolympics Qualifying Tournament. There will be upsets.

They will if the team gets to qualify. I'm not that sure about that. But they know the Olympics is the perfect tournament to say goodbye. Who do you think is better than them in Spain even at 36?

Yes they were over confident, but it could not be an excuse to losing a tournament in own country. An injury, or refusal to join the national team, can change the picture a lot. Age and its effect is also an issue.

I didn't say there are better players , but i'm not very confident that they will play. Pau will have next NBA season , then he must play whole summer for Olympics , and after that one more long nba season. I'm not sure that he want to do that at 36.

I would be glad if they all play , all of that strongest players (Pau,Marc,Parker,Diaw,Noah) , because it would be very very strong competicion. But i'm not sure.

Sorry for my bad english , i hope you understand what i want to say. :)

Spain has petitioned FIBA to change the rules to allow 2 naturalized players instead of 1. So that both Ibaka and Mirotic can play. If FIBA does not allow that for the upcoming 2015 EuroBasket, which is 90% sure, then Mirotic will no longer be a part of Spanish program and he will play for Montenegro.

So chance of Mirotic being with Spain is very small and almost none, especially since their federation already decided to choose Ibaka over him.

I would put Mitrovic also in that roster.

Anyway, Marjanovic is interesting because he is completely dominant if teams don't double team him and if the whole team is built around him. Like what he has in Red Star. But if teams double team and/or if the whole team is not built around him, like the whole offense is not just 100% everything for him, then it is another story.

If teams will double team him every time then they will disrupt the offense and also if he is in the team then you have to just base the whole offense 100% on him. That means Teodosic has to also 100% stop everything he does and buy into doing that. And playing in a team like Red Star the opponent can either be not good enough like in ABA league to really do much or in Euroleague they can be much better than Red Star so that worries about how you defend don't matter.

But in EuroBasket against best teams, the double teams can matter completely because it can take him out of game and disrupt the whole team if it is based in the offense all around him. Then you will have Teodosic in free style mode. And having a center like that in your team you have to slow the game down so much, which goes against the natural thing of having all those athletes that roster has.

On the other hand, on defense side of court in half court, that Serbia with that size, that length, those athletes, and that monster in middle, that is scary, scary thought. How the hell will any team score in half court? And if teams guards and bigs will not play it properly, then pick and roll between Teodosic and Boban is a scary thought also.

It's a shame from the competitions standpoint that Kyrie will never represent Australia. Kyrie, Bogut, Patty Mills, Aaron Baynes, Dellavedova and Exum is a solid core of NBA players with the potential of both the Maker brothers and Ben Simmons to come. With Kyrie representing the US, Bogut likely to save his body and Maker x2, Exum and Simmons far from the finished articles, it may come too soon though.

Besides Irving none of those other players is that good for top FIBA level though to be honest. Bogut I would not even count because he is always injured and never plays, or even if he is not injured, he still does not play, being worried he will get injured. Those other players besides Irving is actually I would say below average compared to good European teams.

And then the other players I don't know, because they are too young right now to really judge for sure. Actually, Australia has I think some more important players like Ingles and Newley. I know they use Baynes a lot now as their big man and he is playing in Spurs, same with Mills playing in their back court and with Spurs, but really though, those guys are not at the typical standards of most big men and lead guards in good European teams. They are just featuring them a lot, probably thinking they are better than they really are, because they play in the Spurs rotation. Players like Exum and Dellavedova definitely are not up the level of most players in good European national teams, and those two are probably about at the level of the worst players on good European national teams, and even I would say they are worse than any player on the elite European national teams.

Bogut recently commited himself to the Australian Rio programme , adding him Mills and Ben Simmons to their World Championship squad will definetly put them in the hunt for a medal , then in the future you add Maker and Humphries plus a few other of their dominant junior players ( who have been beating all the FIBA Euro junior teams in recent years ) , look out next World Championship in 2019.
Simmons , Maker and Exum will transform the future Australian team by adding a big dose of athleticism that they never had before,
similer to the French team.

Well if we are going to look at it like that 2019-2020 might also be the years of a new strong Croatian team.

Bogut has committed to playing in the Oceania qualifiers this August, in fact 6 of the 7 Aussies in the NBA look like they'll suit up, with Ingles taking time off to get married.

Olympic team will probably look like:

G Dellavedova / Exum
G Mills / Goulding
F Ingles / Broekhoff / Newley
F Simmons / Motum / Bairstow
C Bogut / Baynes

assuming Maker won't play.

2016 may be a little early for Canada but they are coming and could be a real threat. Come 2020 look out.

PG: Cory Joseph / Tyler Ennis (Kevin Pangos perhaps as a fallback option)
SG: Nik Stauskas and one or two of Brady Heslip / Carl English / Andy Rautins, then Jamal Murray and/or Olivier Hanlan down the road.
SF: Andrew Wiggins (weak at SF depth, maybe Kris Joseph fills in here or one of the PFs or SGs backs up the 3 - Powell, Bennett, Trey Lyles, English)
PF: Tristan Thompson / Andrew Nicholson / Anthony Bennett / Dwight Powell / Trey Lyles (DEEP here)
C: Kelly Olynyk / Robert Sacre (Joel Anthony perhaps if needed - hopefully not though)

Lots of others that could get there: Khem Birch, Sim Bhullar, Jordan Bachynski, Kyle Wiltjer, Dyshawn Pierre, Xavier Rathan Maynes, Dillon Brooks many others...

I think the key players this summer are Cory Joseph, Andrew Wiggins, and Kelly Olynyk.
