Is Trey Lyles being a little overlooked?

Post#1 » by bwgood77 » Sun Mar 29, 2015 2:40 am

I mean, with Towns, Stein and Johnson you don't get as much time to showcase as if you were on another team. He is projected as 19th on DX, but I think, as a Suns fan, I'd be about as happy to get him as I would be with Looney or Turner.

I think he's on par with Looney and Portis. Mid first-round. It's hard to tell how well he'd rebound and score if he weren't next to WCS and Towns. He's a smooth and fluid player for a guy that size.

He's got size, athleticism, and a decent basketball IQ. I think the one bad thing in his game is that he can't hit anything past ten feet, but he is an intriguing prospect otherwise.

???

Lyles has an excellent 18 footer in his arsenal. He's very skilled.

He's a really solid, safe pick with a high floor on his performance, but also quite a low ceiling. His decision making is perhaps the best of any bigs this year, in my opinion, he's a bit of a Jedi when he drives and works around the rim on the offensive end, somehow finds openings and reads the play before it happens.

There's not really one area of his game that's bad, but there's not any area in which he excels. A guy like Dwyane Wade can suck all he wants from 3PT territory because he excels in other areas of his game, but if you're above average at everything you're a bit out in the cold.

I think of him as being similar to Channing Frye but with a stronger mentality. He'd be a solid 6th man on a championship team.

I think this statement proves he's being overlooked and under-utilized this year, because IMO he is a much higher level prospect than Looney or Portis.

How does he compare to Harris of Orlando?

Nothing.

Harris is a combo forward. Lyles is a PF.
Sam Hinkie crew.

I agree that he is being overlooked at least on here. I am pretty sure this tournament cemented his status as a lotto pick. He has been very active on both ends. He post game has appeared solid at times and he can slash to the basket. Like his game.

nbadraft.net has him at #7 (to Denver) now.

I haven't watched much college ball this year but I feel like the sites have had him and Looney around the wrong way in the mocks for a long time.

I think he probably tops out at a prime David West/Boozer level of player. 3rd option type on a championship team.

Strikes me as a Markieff Morris-type of player

Yes he is being overlooked in the mock draft boards. He will get drafted much higher than he is projected to be be at the moment.

I'm not sure exactly where he's projected. This video shows some defensive limitations that make me prefer Portis over Lyles.

He's not a flashy prospect. Thus he gets overlooked early in which teams/fan want splashier players

I honestly see him being one of the few players that will pan out from this draft and could potentially become a star. He would UK games that they shouldn't have won this year.

He is similar to Drew Gooden, and I think that is his most likely comp. his ceiling been something similar to Juwan Howard.
I like him, but he is soft and he doesnt do the little things a psot player needs to do, to be a post player.
So unless his offense flourihs to be elite, he wont get by without working harder.
I think he compares fairly well to Mirotic, although Niko plays harder, is a way better shooter, range, form, skills, and is a stronger player, or at least plays a more physical game.
I will draft him anywhere from 15-25, even late-lotto could be understandable, but here is too risky, there are better options out there.

Boozer and West are barrel-chested, chiseled dudes, not sure Lyles can get to their level of strength. He's probably longer than both, though, and he might be a little more fluid.

I would take Lyles over WCS. He is an underrated prospect with versatility on both ends of the floor. He reminds me of PJ Brown not necessarily a star but a key contributor on a team.
1. Herro 2. Bol Bol 3. Seko 4. Bruno
unless we trade up for Barrett or trade down for PJ Washington
