Exact Same Roster Next Year

Post#1 » by pipfan » Tue Mar 31, 2015 1:33 pm

I have been pushing for trades-I like making mock trades as an intellectual exercise. But, what if we brought back the exact crew next year? These notes are kinda useless since we know Thibs will be stubborn in playing certain guys
Rose-34/Brooks-14-Kirk/Moore only use in case of emergency
Butler-36/Snell-12-Kirk and Moore again in case of issues
Dunleavy-12 (he gets the Bogens-first 6 minutes of each half)/Mirotic-18/Snell-6/Dougie-12
Gasol-30/Mirotic-12/Taj-6
Noah-30/Taj-18

Th3 #20 pick won't see the floor. This allows continuity and no one to get worn out. It also allows flexibility with the lineups. It might be the best, run this squad for another year. If Rose were to come back as an All Star-this team wins 60+ and a title

I doubt MDJ will be back. I can see scenario where FO doesnt bring him back so Snell and Mcdermott can play. And Thibs will take that as another undermining coach situation for sure. Thibs loves too much his veterans, can't deal with them or bench them and that isnt good for a team. I would also love if FO made somekind of deal with Hinrich so he takes assistant coach role. I also doubt Brooks get back, someone will offer him contract.

We arent athletic team. And FO will sure look at numbers who will confirm that. I can see they change a team a bit. Hinrich, Dunleavy for athletic reasons, age and players who play huge minutes, Brooks cause someone will offer him contract are for me first guys who I dont see get back.

MDJ, Moore, Nazr, Brooks and probably Taj won't come back. Kirk Hinrich not coming back would be awesome

we can get someone better than Brooks and Kirk. We don't really need them back do we?

Moore has a TEAM non-guaranteed contract for the minimum next year; I can't imagine a scenario where the Bulls don't keep him. With the apron an issue if you use either the BAE or MLE and Jimmy gets the max, I assume the Bulls only have the MMLE to sign one FA.

Then you assume either Kirk comes back or if he doesn't that his salary opens up a backup PG spot, the Bulls have two options

1. Keep Taj

Rose / Hinrich / Vet Min (Jordan Farmar?)
Butler / Moore
Snell / McDermott
Noah / Mirotic
Gasol / Gibson

The last spots on the roster go to a MMLE signing, the 2015 #1, vet min (opposite big/wing of MMLE signing). Dunleavy could come back but I wonder if Bulls go into the tax for that.

2. Trade Taj and take back less salary to open MLE

Rose / Kirk / Vet Min (Ish Smith?)
Butler / Moore
Snell / McDermott
Noah / Mirotic
Gasol /

You'd have the MLE to replace Taj as a fourth big, whatever you got in a trade for him, the 2015 #1 to fill out the roster

I don't think Brooks is gonna be back, these guys always go somewhere else after playing for the vet min in chicago. Some team will give him 2 o 3 mill to be their back up PG same way DJ did last year.

I think they'll draft a PG or a C to develop and I don't think they'll use the MLE to sign anybody due to Jimmy's extension, so mostly the same core with some vet mins added.

Brooks hasn't been nearly as good as Augustin was last year, I have my doubts that he gets anymore than the vet min. Would love to bring him back for that. I'm hoping we can pull off a trade with Taj landing a Wilson Chandler type wing. Below is my ideal depth chart:

Rose/Brooks/Hinrich/Moore
Butler/Snell/Hinrich/Moore
Chandler/McDermott/Butler
Gasol/Mirotic/Chandler/Vet Min Big
Noah/Gasol/1st Rounder/Vet Min Big

That team would be amazing.

Gonna add one or two draft picks. The 1st rounder should play 10-15 mpg from the getgo (although this won't happen with Thibs, of course -- he would have rookie MJ playing 5 mpg in the fall).

We don't know what the roster will be next season.

But, it won't be the same as this season.

We're a very athletic team. We only have six players on the roster (and two who rarely, if ever play) who lack athleticism: Gasol, Dunleavy, Hinrich, McDermott (and Nazr and Bairstow).

Rose, Jimmy, Taj, Niko, Noah, Snell, Moore and Brooks all have varying degrees of athleticism.

MDJ has done a good job with the Bulls, but with how well Mirotic and Snell have played at the 3 this year, and the fact that McDermott and Mirotic will no longer be rookies, there really is no point in bringing back a 35 year old Dunleavy.

We're slowly becoming a tad bit more athletic but we are nowhere near an athletic team. I think MDJ & Brooks come back after winning this year but who knows how much you're market value goes up once you're a role player with a ring. We'll see.

* McD moves into the rotation
* Moore moves into the rotation
* Niko's role increases in the rotation
* Snell's role increases in the roation

* 1st rounder replaces Taj with less minutes & a cheaper rookie deal. Athletic center should be #1 priority. Learns the position from Noah/Gasol for 2 years. More minutes for Niko.

* MLE pickup at the combo guard spot (Canaan?)
* Vet 3rd pg on the minimum (Nate?)

* 8th title

While I like the the improvement from Snell and he is ready for more minutes next year, he is not ready to be the starting SF without a plan B. Also this has not been a productive year for McDermott. If we don't keep Dunleavy, we will need to add a vet at SF. Lastly, it is time to say good bye to Hinrich.

I think the most likely scenario is that Nazr retires, Bairstow is released, and everybody else is back. Dunleavy resigned with a non-bird rights deal (if I understand that we can in fact use that correctly). The best backup guard available signed with the mmle, and our draft pick used on a nazr replacement.

Noah, pick
gasol, taj
niko, Dunleavy, mcd
Butler, snell, moore
rose, mmle, kirk
