I hope not

Post#1 » by Schmoopy1000 » Mon Mar 30, 2015 7:44 am

Free agent LB Lance Briggs will visit the 49ers on Monday.
The 49ers are looking to upgrade their linebacker depth after losing Patrick Willis and Chris Borland to retirement. 34-year-old Briggs has struggled with injuries and effectiveness the last two seasons, but could benefit from moving inside in San Francisco. The Bucs and Cowboys also have interest in Briggs.

I don't want to overpay to bring in a guy at the end of his career. (I really don't think we will)

Me neither, but who is to say we would be overpaying him? IMO you only bring in a guy like Briggs right now if you think he can win a starting job. He isn't going to play STs and we have a big group of borderline roster guys that are younger and can improve into bigger contributors over the next couple of years. Briggs has been hurt a lot lately, right? Maybe if he is healthy he is worth looking at. In reality I can't remember the last time I thought he was a good player. 3 years ago? 4?

If he can still play and the price is right, this would be a very good addition. Hell we need linebackers. We still only have one and Witten and Romo only have 2 years left to get us a super bowl. I say yes because we still stink at LB.

Rolando visits the Pat's today.
Briggs taking near vet minimum wouldn't be so bad.....but that's the rub for me. Briggs is a 40% snap guy that can't play ST's

If he could still play, yes. But, that IS the big question. Can he still play?

Yeah, he knows the player as well as anyone. But, he hasn't signed him yet, so I still think the question that Rod also has is what does he have left, not what was he once.

Not sure I want to waste any money to see if he can play. I prefer to look at younger cheaper options.
