Official Georgetown Hoyas Thread

Post#1 » by Chocolate City Jordanaire » Tue Jan 20, 2015 5:26 pm

Ted Lonsis is owner and Georgetown alumni

Otto Porter is an alumni and a Wizards lottery pick.

Georgetown under JT III defeated Villanova last night. I am beginning to look at NCAA basketball players and various conferences.

If you care to please discuss Georgetown hoops and potential prospects here.

Kaleb Johnson Commits To Georgetown

The Georgetown Hoyas picked up a commitment on Wednesday morning from class of 2015 three-star small forward Kaleb Johnson of the Carlisle School in Martinsville, Va.

With Johnson's commitment, the Hoyas 2015 recruiting class now stands at four as he joins Jessie Govan, Marcus Derrickson and Louisville Cardinals transfer Akoy Agau.

After picking up a scholarship offer from Georgetown's coaching staff, Johnson and his family made the trip up to Washington D.C. to, once again, visit the Hilltop before taking in Tuesday night's matchup with the Xavier Musketeers at the Verizon Center.

In Johnson the Hoyas are adding a player that 247Sports' Jerry Meyer described as "an athlete with an instinct for the ball and strong motor," this past December after his play in the Phenom Hoops National Jamboree.

Per the industry generated 247Sports Composite rankings, Johnson is considered to be the 171st best prospect in the class of 2015. Those same rankings list him as the 33rd ranked small forward in his class and the eighth ranked player in the state of Virginia.

Johnson's rated slightly higher in Jerry Meyer's 247Sports rankings as he checks in at No. 157 overall in the class of 2015. He is considered to be the 31st best small forward in his class and the eighth best player in the state of Virginia.

With Baylor, Iowa State, and now Georgetown eliminated; Maryland needs to win in order to outpace all the teams that shouldn't have been seeded higher than them.

Oklahoma is the only other team left that shouldn't have been seeded higher than the Terps.
Bye bye Beal.

He's not getting drafted, most likely will play in Europe. Big blow for the Hoyas.

It MUST be about getting paid overseas, otherwise he's looking at a few bus trips b/w Grand Rapids & Fort Wayne.

Oof, he's a very nice college player, but he really should be getting that free college education, free room and board, and enjoying being big man on campus. Good luck to him.

I didn't even know he was 22, turns 23 in December. I think this is all about maximizing his earning power and playing overseas, which you can't fault him for that.

Future is still bright though. Copeland is a lottery pick in 2016.

Yeah for real. Never understood why middling prospects would leave early. Stay in school, enjoy life, the NBA(or whatever pro league you want to play in)isn't going anywhere.

Playing overseas isn't the sure thing most assume it is. Most major foreign leagues don't allow their teams to keep more than 1 American. That culls the heard - as they say on The Walking Dead.

Chicks dig their university's basketball star. This is his last year to really take advantage of that - and he could go down as maybe a top 50 or so player in G-town history. Soon he's going to be sitting at a bar being that sad character from Springstein's Glory Days.

Can't be a has been if you never were.

That's one thing that keeps me going. :)

Seriously, I think you guys are being way too harsh on any young man who wants to play for pay. Dude could hate his coach, hate the hypocrisy of campus life, might have a girlfriend pregnant or otherwise be ready to move on.

Or, he could be making a horrible decision. Who knows?

Like ccj suggests. This is probably not really a decision based on basketball. More likely it has something to do with academics, coaching, DSR's lack of interest in being a student.

Report: Hoyas' D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera changes mind about NBA

D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera changed his mind.

Georgetown's leading scorer will return for his senior season after the program announced last week the guard intended to sign with an agent and enter the NBA Draft, according to numerous reports on Tuesday.

CSNwashington.com inquired with school officials, but the athletic department has yet to comment on Smith-Rivera's status after releasing a statement about his NBA plans last week.

The initial decision came as a surprise because the 6-foot-2 guard is not considered a first-round pick. DraftExpress.com, one of the leading NBA Draft evaluation sites, does not list Smith-Rivera among their top 100 prospects.
