Our PnR defense is getting beat badly and JV is already in foul trouble. Not much he can do when you allow blow bys like that. Much higher chance you're going to foul. He picked up 2 from helping, and got an unfortunate one that should have been a jump ball. It's not a lack of effort. Perimeter has to put some effort in to allow bigs to help.

All JV needed to do was rotate to cut off penetration. He didn't do that 3 times. He should be bench for that. He wasn't even looking at where the ball was on those three plays.

1. When JV is part of those pick and roll defense, and the rotating help is not there, we point to JV's bad pick and roll defense. Where is the blame for the lack of help in these situations?

2. When other Raptors are on those pick and roll defense, and JV is supposed to be the help man rotating, we point to his help defense. Where is the blame for the 2 Raptors for bad pick and roll defense?

JV can't win with you people, because while others get a pass for their bad defense, he gets blame for everything.

You gotta remember who you're talking with. Some people will always blame JV for everything, others are more reasonable.

1. When JV is doing his job in the P&R, and is put in no man's land defending 2 players, then it's on his teammates for not doing their job either bothering the penetrating guard/staying in the play, or helping onto the big when JV has to come over and contest the guard's shot.

2. When JV is the help defender and goes to contest a shot, someone needs to pick up his man. Help the helper.

A lot of times in those situations, he gets the blame from people who don't understand the game of basketball. However, there are some legitimate times where JV makes mistakes on his coverages. By pointing them out, it doesn't necessarily equate to blaming JV for everything.

Yeah, if we put JV in that PnR situation that's all we're talking about. Amir or Patterson not contesting the easy dunks would have gone completely under the radar. They were giving up easy drives to the basket out of the PnR, end of story.

Not worried about JV's effort level contesting at the rim when he's got 2 fouls trying to help out watery defense. If I were him I would have let Wiggins go too.

it's just really sad to see what he's become. Here and there he'll look alright physically, but it's just not the same. Sorely needs to get his fluidity in running and general movement back.

And leave his man wide open? The problem is not guys getting through on weak PnR defense, it's that they're getting straight drives to the basket from EXTREMELY weak PnR defense. No time to rotate, not because you can't get there necessarily (first Bennett dunk MAYBE) but because it's a quick play that has a high chance in resulting in a foul or giving a wide open pass to the guy you're guarding. That's a PnR defense problem.

And he helped on Wiggins but fouled because it was one of the most athletic guys in the league getting a wide open drive.

2 of those were cuts where he wasn't even looking at the play where he should have rotated to protect the rim. The Wiggins one he again wasn't watching the play then looks over seeing Wiggins driving. Wiggins read the D and saw JV not paying attention and drove pass DeRozan after he gambled. The Wiggins one I can give a pass on but the other two I can't, since he just had to make a simple rotation to protect the rim.

I'm a JV fan but I'm going to let it slide when he makes an obvious miscue as the last line of defense.

at least on one of them he was not able to make it in time anyway. no need to blame jv for everything seriously

I don't think people are blaming him for everything, just pointing out where he made his mistakes.

people see what they want to see. blaming for all three dunks is just plane stupid. atleast on two of them he had no chance to rotate quick enough to be in position to contest.
