UFC Fight Night 63 (4/4): Mendes vs. Lamas

Post#1 » by CPT » Thu Jan 22, 2015 12:55 pm

Chad Mendes vs. Ricardo Lamas
Bobby Green vs. Jorge Masvidal
Diego Ferreira vs. Dustin Poirier
Michael Chiesa vs. Mitch Clarke
Shamil Abdurahimov vs. Timothy Johnson
Liz Carmouche vs. Lauren Murphy

Top two fights are pretty good.

Mendes vs. Lamas would be a good #1 contender fight if Frankie Edgar didn't exist.

Bobby Green is injured, Benson replaces him.

Chad Tko4 - Chad is amazing fighter one of top tiers in the world regardless of weight class. Lamas is tough and underrated but he is getting finished
Masvidal Sd - Jorge is a tough out for anyone in the division. Hes very skilled and technical, has much better boxing than Benson and his counterwrestling is some of the best in the division. Benson wont find much success with his clinch game but he will take a round with his kicks. Hopefully Masvidal finishes him but its gonna be like 95% of Benson fights with his dumb pace that go to the scorecards.........controversial
Poirier Tko1 - Ferreira isnt on this level. He looked great against Ramsey but Ramsey is a horrible fighter. Kept running into the same counter over and over. Dustin will find him in the pocket eventually and end it
Chiesa Ud - Not impressed by Clarke he got lucky against Raging Al. Chiesa might sub him

Dont know enough about the others

Updated card:

Ricardo Lamas vs. Chad Mendes
Al Iaquinta vs. Jorge Masvidal
Michael Chiesa vs. Mitch Clarke
Diego Ferreira vs. Dustin Poirier
Shamil Abdurahimov vs. Timothy Johnson
Liz Carmouche vs. Lauren Murphy
Luke Barnatt vs. Clint Hester
Milana Dudieva vs. Julianna Pena
Clay Guida vs. Robbie Peralta
Justin Jones vs. Ron Stallings
Gray Maynard vs. Alexander Yakovlev

Pretty decent for a Fight Night card, TBH.

Julianna Pena coming back is kind of big if you care about WMMA at all. Would have thought it would get a bit more attention. Maybe it will.

Some big names on the prelims: Carmouche (yeah, yeah, but she fought for a title), Guida, Maynard

This is the next UFC event, so giving it a bump.

MAIN CARD
FOX Sports 1, 1 p.m. ET
Ricardo Lamas vs. Chad Mendes
Al Iaquinta vs. Jorge Masvidal
Michael Chiesa vs. Mitch Clarke
Milana Dudieva vs. Julianna Pena
Clay Guida vs. Robbie Peralta
Diego Ferreira vs. Dustin Poirier

PRELIMINARY CARD
FOX Sports 1, 11 a.m. ET
Liz Carmouche vs. Lauren Murphy
Gray Maynard vs. Alexander Yakovlev
Shamil Abdurahimov vs. Timothy Johnson
Justin Jones vs. Ron Stallings

Card has stayed essentially the same, with Barnatt vs. Hester pulled.

I think it's going to be really good. After the first two prelims, I don't think there is a fight over 155.

Gray Maynard!? At least his opponent is 0-2 in the UFC and a grappler.

Three years ago Maynard was training for the rubber-match with Edgar for the belt.
Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.

What's amazing is how well Edgar has done physically after those fights.

WTF is with this/these start times?? Is it cos it is Easter Saturday or??

Totally baffling, I mean it is on the East Coast in the USA so...

Bloody weird! Does anyone have an official reason/link not speculation as to why this unusual start time?

Asking nicely, sincerely, politely it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! Cheers! :P! :)! :D!

I'm guessing to avoid the final four.

Didn't notice the different start time.

If you're going to do that, why not a) just not schedule an event on Final Four weekend in the first place, and/or b) have one of the overseas events at a normal time for them and 1 pm ET in the States?

Kinda excited for this card though, I must say.

I love the start time for this event. I'd much rather watch fights during the day and then have my evenings free. Also, this is on Fox Sports 1, so you could DVR it and watch it Saturday night, being able to fast forward in between fights.

Yea I'm excited for the top 2 fights. Although more in a 'ppv opener' way than a main event way.

So this card is on TV Saturday day, not night? Prelims start at 11am and main card at 1pm, that's what my guide is showing for FS1.

Masvidal made weight on 2nd attempt, not the first time he struggled making weight.

May or may not have thrown some dough on Lamas. I think Lamas is a great fighter, Mendes may have a better chance to win but at a between 3-4:1 odds. Lamas all day.

I cannot even believe I'm sitting here watching Gray Maynard get dropped and GNPed in another ufc fight.
